This is the AP poll, so it doesn't count toward the BCS. Coaches' poll usually comes out later today
1 Alabama (58)
2 Ohio State (1)
3 Oregon
4 Boise State (1)
5 TCU
6 Oklahoma
7 Nebraska
8 Auburn
9 Arizona
10 Utah
11 Arkansas
12 LSU
13 Miami (FL)
14 Florida 4-1
15 Iowa 4-1
16 Stanford
17 Michigan State
18 Michigan
19 South Carolina
20 Wisconsin
21 Nevada
22 Oklahoma State
23 Florida State
24 Missouri
25 Air Force
Some factoids (or proof of sportswriter stupidity) from this week:
USC, Penn State and Texas all missing from the polls. When was the last time that happened?
Three mid-majors in the top 10, five mid-majors ranked overall.
Oregon jumped Boise
Arkansas is considered to be the best one-loss team.
The best team in Florida ain't Florida
QUOTE(#2):
And I find it amusing that Arkansas, while watching TV, earned a 4-spot jump!
My reading of the tea leaves on that is: "Alabama is so freakin' good, that any team who faces them and avoids utter emasculation deserves to move up in the rankings"
QUOTE:

not going to happen.

Looks pretty good to me.

Baylor won big. OrSU won.
VT beat a ranked team. Pitt won.
What do these teams have in common? They all lost to MWC or WAC top teams and so the wins they got Saturday seem not to count. .
I think your concern is misplaced, at least for these examples.
In the case of VaTech, losing to James Madison will haunt them for a while in voter's eyes.
Oregon State probably is being unfairly punished for scheduling two top ten teams in their first three games. Still, it's tough to know where rank them based on losing to good teams and not (yet) having enough decent wins. I expect them to get AP voter attention soon enough if they do well in the Pac10.
Same with Pitt--losses to Miami and Utah are no disgrace. But when you only have wins over a SUn Belt and an FCS team, it's pretty tough to make a case for being 'good'. All Pitt can say is that they are better than a bottom dweller and worse than a top 10 team.
Baylor didn't just lose to TCU--they got beat up. They don't have any significant wins (yet, anyway) to counter that. Kansas, UB, Sam Houston State and Rice does not a resume make.
IMO, the AP voters (more than the Coaches and Harris voters) do try to take on the field results into account, and so if the teams you mention do well going forward, I would expect them to get ranked.
This is the first time Texas has fallen out of the AP polls since the year 2000. This was the longest active streak (ten years, 162 consecutive weeks).
tOSU now holds the longest active streak at 89 consecutive weeks ranked in the AP top 25
For those who find this stuff interesting, the longest all time streaks are:
1. Nebraska 1981-2002 (348 weeks 21 years!)
2. Florida State 1989-2001 (211 weeks)
3. Florida 1990-2002 (209 weeks)
4. Texas 2000-2010 (162 weeks)
5. Miami (FL) 1985-1995 (162 weeks)

Yea... we want no part of them. Let tOSU get the snot beat out of them in the NCG. We'll take the Fiesta TYVM.
QUOTE(#12):
I would've thought that with all the style points that BSU racked up against the NMSU Aggies last night (59-0), that they would have nudged out my Buckeyes for 2nd place. The polls are becoming a real horse race now.
Not sure how it is possible to win style points against very possibly the worst FBS team in the country. They are surely in the conversation for worst. They could have lost some with a closer win though.

I hope that doesn't happen!
QUOTE(#7):
not going to happen.
I'm thinking Miami wins the ACC. I'm gonna say they beat FSU.

The idiot AP voters aren't going to have to worry about this particular scenario, as VT will not even make it to the ACC Championship Game.
BTW, which attention-hound is giving the Smurfs a #1 vote? Ridiculous.
