NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Browns Win Barely

I should be happy for the win but a defensive holding call late really saved Cleveland's butts.

As Dawgs by Nature pointed out after that call Brian Daboll finally remembered he had a power running team and fed the ball to Hillis. Yeah he deserves credit for feeding Hillis throughout the game but also deserves criticism for taking it out of his hands at a crucial portion of the game.

Then there's Rob Ryan who is definitely proving to be the wrong Ryan. The Browns would have fewer points if he didn't blitz so much. Nearly all the big plays on both running and passing from the Bengals were on Ryan's blitzes. He doesn't disguise them well. In fact most of the sacks we got were coverage sacks, meaning that the DB's can do the job as long as they aren't left on an island by themselves.

Mangini needs to step in and remind these guys that the object is to win games.

HGT: I'm happy with the win, too, but there is a lot to work on yet before the Falcons come to town next week. On the defense, I agree with you about the blitz packages being highly predictable, mostly ineffective, and really leave our DB's stranded on one on one coverage. They are decent at times in man coverage, but it always makes me more nervous than excited when we bring a strong blitz at the QB. To beat the Falcon offense, they are probably going to have to be more cautious and more fundamental--take fewer risks and just play solid coverage. The Browns def line can stop Turner from running all over, I think, so on passing downs they should focus on better coverage packages--not blitz packages. Maybe in a year or two Cleveland will have enough talent at DB and LB to dial up the blitzes that Rob wants to use. I just do not think that we are there right now.

Oh, and Rogers needs to get in better shape to be effective. He could create havoc in the backfield if he was healthy/in shape. We might not need to rush so many...just have him burst thru the line and have a LB delay blitz to clean up the QB.

Man...last year there were at least 7-8 Browns posters in here...feel like the last of the Mohicans, here. ECHO!......ECho!....Echo!......echo.

I know. Sad.

Funny thing about the blitzing. I think if we keep Ryan and his blitz packages it almost forces us to try and grab one of the top CB's the upcoming draft rather than a D lineman or LB.

We could definitely use the help, but WR might be issue #1. It all depends where we pick, though, and who will be available. They will try to get the best value, too. There are lots of LB's and WR's in the later rounds that become everyday starters, and on the cheap. If Cleveland has a top 10 pick, I think that they should trade down if they can, get more picks. I have more confidence in the current administration to turn in some value with the lower picks. Hell, there might not even be a draft next year...that just made me sad.

When they had the lead in the 4th, I'm sure I'm not the only one that was wondering how they were going to let it slip away.

WE WON! Step one, win one.

"LCBF,
Hey Bro,
I'll post ifn it's ok with You guys? When You play the Ravens and Steelers?,I'm going with Yer Team,For obvious reasons,I think we're going into a bye week,so I hope they get some things fixed that are still issues.Penalties being one of them."

LOL, OBVIOUSLY....., the Bengals need all the help they can get.....But seriously, I gotta give CLE some props here. They are one of the better 1-3 teams in the league. a couple of plays go the other way here and there, and they are 3-1....

Your RB Hillis looks like the reincarnation of Walt Garrison, the old Cowboys RB....should be interesting to see how he does against the Steelers front 7....I'm sure they ALL will be reminded of that debacle in CLE last year during the 5 game losing streak....

Anyway, it WAS GREAT to see CLE win the 1st round of the "Battle of Ohio" this past Sunday, it took A LITTLE of the sting out of that game the Steelers gave away to the Ratbirds...

Always okay, EZ. Hope you Sweep the rest of the division...

There will be more people hopping on the band wagon once this team starts winning consistently.

Not interested in the band wagon fans. I'm interested in the fans that were going down with the ship and didn't turn and run for greener pastures.

Got a text from a buddy of mine that asked that exact question: "How are they going to find a way to give this one away, too?" It wasn't pretty, but it's a start.
