NFL  > New York Giants  > Let Burress go
December 2, 2008, 11:04 AM
The Giants had good years With Burress but I think they should let him go . They know thet can win without him and could use the money towards making sure they keep Jacobs ,Ward and Toomer and Eli is going to want a big raise also.

From NFC champ. game and Super Bowl Hero to Village Idiot....Im still not sure what to think about this...and the fact that he could face a min of 3.5 years in the big booty house is an attention getter for all these other shmoes who want to walk around strapped with a gat!
Another career wasted...just never saw this one coming....who would have thought Pac Man would have been topped!

As far as I'm concerned - that wannabe thug should be banned from the NFL. He needs to go back to the village missing their idiot.

The Giants need to do what is smartest and healthiest for the team and the future . This undoubtedly means Burress is done, but it needs to happen in such a way that the team unity is perserved and the team benefits the most (read: cap structure and possibly forcing him to forfeit his dollars).

Honestly, they did fine, they suspended him and put him on the NFI list, which means he gets no dollars for a quarter of the season, and will not garner post-season bonuses. THEN they just sit and wait until he pleas it out with the law, and Big Blue uses the mea culpa to trigger the behavioral clauses in his contract to get out of the other 23 million in toto, and reclaim more of the signing bonus, so they aren't touched after 2009, and have a minimum of him against the 2009 cap.

Jerry is too slick to jump the gun and buy him off. Let him stew for a few months. We avoided any Shockey blowback, we'll avoid this too.

They clearly dont need him, let him go.

Why not throw in Michael Vick? Burress makes those two look like choir boys, Vick must be laughing, (all I did was kill a dog!) what some of us would do to live the life of an NFL player and Burress throws it all away (for now) just to act tough at night club, you want to drink an play with guns? Do it at home, not in public place, lucky he didn???t accidently shoot some one.

Plaxico was foundational to the development of Eli and the ascent of the Giants to where they are today. When the game is on the line in the playoffs and the pressure is mounting, with
the Giants facing a dominant D then the old safety valve of a big target towering over the
opposing corner wont be there. They will not miss Plaxico today or this weekend but in the
furnace of the playoffs they will miss him to their detriment.

They should prosecute all three players Buress for caring a loaded gun in to a bar and caring gun across a state line and also for faslse document to a hospital and also for firing a gun in city limits Adrean Pierce for interfering with a crime and caring a gun across state line and the other idiot for being in a bar when it was against his probation. If you dont make these over payed premadonas punishable for there crimes it sets a presidencies for those of lesser means to commit the same crime not to mention the money it will cost the tax payers charge.I think they should fine the hospital and the doctors/employees who didnt follow the persedure for a gun shot wound and allowing a with out the proper documentation.and Fine the Night club for allowing a gun on the property where alcohol is sold and the NFL should fine and suspend the other two players for there involvment

December 5, 2008  07:44 PM ET

Forget all that the Giants should give Burress one last chance, the man carries a gun one time and everyone labels him a thug????? get the f*uck outta here.

December 5, 2008  11:03 PM ET

He's living up to his name, burr a.$$

December 15, 2008  02:33 PM ET

I hope you genius's see how bad of an idea it is to let Plax go now. The Giants can't run the ball..intermediate passing game is dead...and they just cant move the ball. ALL because of one man not being on the field.

December 16, 2008  11:13 AM ET

You sure about that now that you have lost 2 str8 games to good teams without him?

You have not ONE guy who commands a double team left on the squad and that will enable teams with 2-3 good corners to blitz the snot out of you just like Philly and Dallas did.

With Plax...he forced a double team and you were left playing 10 on 9....now, its man coverage across the board with bump and run and the defenses can send 7-8 guys, leaving poor Eli with no shot to throw the ball.

Jacobs is a monster back, but even the great Emmitt Smith couldnt run into 8 and 9 man boxes.

And if you look at the stats, since Plax went down, so did your ability to muster up a dangerous run game.

My thinking is you might just lose the remainder of your games and limp badly into the playoffs...

Frankly, no team can lose their best wideout without some consequences to the remainder of the team...especially one who commands double teams and that goes the same for Dallas...just look at how bad they were without TO last year for those 2 games.

December 16, 2008  01:10 PM ET

they cant let him go without knowing the extent of what he's facing, if they do and its found he's not facing much, then another team will certainly give him the opportunity that he's certainly going to be looking for. IF he makes it thru this practically "unscathed" then he will definitely be a better person and player and will not get out of line in such a manner again im guessing.

December 29, 2008  12:28 PM ET

I am a huge Giants fan but I think they should not let Plax go. He is a big play receiver and without him the passing game has struggled because no one commands double teams. I like Toomer but to say let Plax go to resign Toomer is just plain dumb. Toomer is good for a catch here and there but he doesn't do much else beyond that. I say let Toomer go, worry about signing the backs and if you can't sign them both then at least sign Jacobs and give Ware some more time. To say he outdid both Vick and Pacman is also dumb, one is in jail and the other was suspended for almost a season and a half. Get real ands think about what you are going to say before you type away. Vick helped in killing dogs, Pacman was just plain ole dumb, and at least Plax hurt himself and no one else. Why did LQ's allow someone in their place without a search?

I agree with releasing Burress, unfortunately his antics this year are going to cost the G-Men the Superbowl and a chance to repeat. I have been a crazed Giants fan since I was able to understand most of the game of football. Giants fans run through my family for generations, so just know I am not some idiot blogger with an agenda like a moronic Cowboys fan. I was at the Carolina game last week and Eli is doing well without Burress, but once playoff time rolls around he is going to be sorely missed and the Giants need to make it priority number one to get a big physical receiver in the offseason. Eli should be commended this season for making due with this platoon of receivers. I hope I am wrong, I really do, but in my opinion I think Plaxico blew the season just like he almost blew off his kneecap. Thanks Plax..see ya in 2 years on the Oakland Raiders.

Jacobs totally agrees...

Here is another question then? Who would want to take a chance on him? Obviously he is talented, but is he worth the risk now?

What teams???

January 30, 2009  07:50 PM ET

he's a cupcake compared to TO..watch TO leave and Big D take Burress if he's cut my NY.
