This is truly a strange season. The only other time in my life I rooted for a Spurrier-led team was the gators in the '92 SECCG. Had they beaten 'Bama in that game, WE would have played Miami for the National Title. What might have been...
that was a great game played by S.C. ....hats off to them...and I just hope Alabama learns from this and we get a re match in the SEC championship game...

I dunno. Maybe. I like it because I didn't think (after the ARK game) that Bama was as good as they thought....still good, but not as good as #1.

Please believe me when I tell you that VT absolutely, positively WILL NOT win the ACC. I've been saying since this summer that the hype surrounding VT is TOTALLY unwarranted. If, by chance, the ACC CG turns out to be VT vs. FSU, I GUARANTEE we'll whip their asses. I very rarely make any guarantees, but you can hold me to that one.
WTF??? The Utah Utes thump a Big 12 team scoring more points in THEIR house than ANYONE - OK, UT, NE - ANYONE has ever done, remain undefeated, and still drop a spot in the poll? I guess beating, nay, nay POUNDING a 3-2 ISU who just pounded Texas Tech the previous week wasn't a QUALITY win.
Utah can't get into the PAC 12 soon enough.
Gotta agree with you uteowl. Utah is the real deal and this poll... anomaly... is inexcusable. Oh, and looking forward to having the Utes in the Pac. Can't wait to bring my skis along for late fall games in Salt Lake. ;-)

I can buy that. The FSU defense might be able to shut down VT just like it did Miami.
The ranking will look much different when the BCS comes out. I expect my Tigers to jump a little. While other teams were playing San Jose State and Samford, LSU defeated 2 top 25 teams. North Carolina and West Virginia. I say we move to 7th overall.

In hindsight:
- Bama's easy win over UF is not that surprising if you consider UF's struggles against 3 really bad teams.
- PSU is pretty bad.. Only wins over Youngstown St, Kent St & Temple.. Averaged 6 pts per game in their 3 losses.
- TAMU is mediocre at best and played ArKANSAS up to a last second hail-mary attempt

The AP (or any) poll has turned into a, 'Who's #1 and 2?" debate.
Which then becomes, 'Who's the National Champ?"

-> preseason polls
-> you lose - you drop 5 spots
-> you win - you move up as far as the losses allow
-> toss in some more opinion, and a few computers

First of all...analyzing the polls early in the season is an exercise in futility..and it is still early.
Second, no one should evaluate a ranking based on the ladder theory of ranking. It is true some pollsters do, but it is a ridiculous way of ranking teams. The ladder theory would mean you would do a ranking based upon how much you think a team should move up or down based upon this weeks result.
Every week you should look at your entire knowledge base and decide upon how the teams should be ranked. In your question about Utah, you should ask yourself which teams you think they should be ranked ahead of, and also look behind them and see if there are any teams that are behind that should be ahead of them. Where they were last week should have no bearing.
IMO, they are about where they should be at this time. They have plenty of style points but their signature win is a home overtime win against Pittsburg.
