thanks :) I decided I needed to get back involved!
This is a completely different 1-4 team than last year's 1-4 team. I started a thread about the game, but people have been getting whacked left and right, so the boards are all screwed up.

Yes, welcome back.
I'll just throw out some random thoughts about the QB's
Jake, I believe, was brought in to be Colt's Gary Danielson. Right up until he got hurt I think he was on the right track to complete this task. Colt on the other hand, I'm not sure was on track.
Holmgren said he may take QB"s in the draft frequently. With that he may keep looking for the right rookie or two. Colt may or may not be his man. Time will tell.
Wallace was a little rough and unsure of himself early on but has shown improvement. Same for Jake, he clearly was not ready to return from his injury. He had not completely healed and he was not in game shape, but what impressed me was he still toughed it out and stayed in there.
The coaches want to do what Holmgren wants, so they are doing what they can to not have a QB controversy, an also not play Colt this year. They may not have a choice on playing Colt unless they pick up another QB. Check that, I just checked and they signed Brett Ratliff.

Without question. Wallace gives you a chance to win. He was a great pick up.
Totally agree with this. Seneca has played well. He completes a high percentage of his throws and last week against atlanta he started to get massaquoi and the recievers involved more. I think we would have won if he stayed in..
I'm really disapointed in Delhomme. He cant even get on the field and at this point im not sure i want him out there. He is not the best option at quarterback. I know this team is totally different than last years but its still so frustrating being 1-4 after having so many games we could have won... and with the schedule we have coming up, if colt mccoy is gonna be the starter this could easily become 1-7.. im a little worried

Seneca Wallace is a good #2.Until you get a legitimate #1 you will stay in the basement along with my stinking Buffalo Bills.

I agree with this.. Even before he got hurt in Tampa, that horrible side-arm interception which basically gave them the game. We win that game and it is a complete different scenario.
In retrospect we have been winning into the 4th quarter (apart from atlanta but i think we should have pulled it off), and we find a new way into handing them the game.
I hate to say this but at this point I would rather have McCoy at QB then Delhomme (injured or not) because with delhomme you can basically anticipate each time the offense has the ball he will throw an interception at some point during a critical portion of the drive.

That's more true if you are a pass first offense. If we are a run first offense, then Wallace is more of a number one guy. Please understand, I don't mean he's a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady... but the steelers have shown that in a run first offense... you need a servicable QB. BR is not a flashy QB and he is capable of big plays. I wouldn't go so far as to say he is on the level of BR... but my belief is he did more to help us win in week 2, 3, 4 and 5 than he is getting credit for and other mistakes cost us the games we lost. I still contend we win vs. atlanta had he still been in the game. (or at least we would have taken it right to the wire).
I agree you would have hung around last week but I would not pin my hopes on Seneca Wallace.Better off giving Colt his chance or mediocrity is the best you can hope for with that guy as your #1.

Again, the strategy the Browns were trying to stick to is that Colt would not start this year. We are trying not to make the same mistakes we have since we came back into the league. Now, we may not have a choice at this point. However, I didn't say that Seneca would be my first choice forever...but he is a servicable QB with the type of offense we are trying to establish.
i like seneca and i think he should be the starter while a young quarterback develops.. but im not sure colt mccoy is that guy. I think it would be a big mistake if we have a chance to draft andrew luck or jake locker and we dont do it. waiting around for a third round pick to develop is the definition of mediocrity. If Mccoy plays well this year (and by well i mean somewhere better than delhomme as played but not necessarily as consistent as seneca) than maybe i will feel differently, but we need a franchise qb.
