Soccer  > General Soccer  > Quintana Roo to share Women's WC Qualifying
October 12, 2010, 10:37 AM
NEW YORK - Group B of the CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying tournament will be moved from Playa del Carmen to Cancun, Mexico, allowing the entire eight-team event to be played in the Yucatan Peninsula resort.

The United States, Costa Rica, Haiti and Guatemala will play their matches in Estadio Quintana Roo, home of Mexican first-division club Atlante FC, while Group A will remain at Estadio Beto Avila.

The previously announced schedule of dates remains unchanged except for the championship and third-place match, which will be played at Quinana Roo instead of Beto Avila. The semifinals will be played at Beto Avila.

The 20,000-seat Quintana Roo was opened in August 2007, built for Atlante FC when the club relocated from Mexico City.

The decision by Atlante to offer its stadium was accepted by CONCACAF and the FMF in order to play the tournament as well as host other related activities in one city.

The venue crowned the first CONCACAF Champions League winner on May 12, 2009, when Atlante drew 0-0 with Cruz Azul to claim the trophy.
