NHL  > General NHL  > Shootouts in the playoffs...

Its become a huge part of who gets in and who doesnt getinto the playoffs, it would be only fair to keep the shootout system throughout the playoffs, (maybe play a full 20 minute Overtime period, then best-of-5 shootout)

thoughts?

As much as I love hockey, if they ever institute shootouts in the playoffs in place of infinite sudden death overtimes until somebody scores, which is about the best playoff product there is in any sport, I will stop watching. Gary Bettman has already done enough to ruin the sport, if he ever tries to make this happen, he might get a nasty-gram from me. hahaha

i would rather get rid of the shootout altogether.when two teams play a hard fought game, both deserve the game. it should never come down to a shoot out.one team shouldnt get two points because they have more snipers on their team.i hate shootouts.

Totally agree.
The game should either be sudden death or each team gets 1 point for their efforts.

I also am not a fan of the shootout. I think they need to go to a 5 minute 3-on-3 overtime. Just look at how exciting the Young Stars game was during the All Star game last year. Though the shootout was exciting when it started, it is not how a game should end. And the 3 on 3 might be even more exciting than the shootout.

the shootout was only created to save money, more specifically T.V. money. Thankfully, it won't be there during the playoffs. Bettman please retire; Don Cherry please answer the call.

shootouts are the worst...bettman needs to go

No shoot outs in the Playoffs (or regular season) The Playoffs are fine the way they are but if they had to change anything, maybe play overtime 4 on 4.

I'm a huge all around sports fan and I can confidently say that there is nothing more exiting than playoff OT. I remember watching the Sharks-Stars game last year (4OT). Yes it was over 60 extra minutes of hockey... But you know what? I was sitting on the edge of my seat for all 70 something minutes. Once again there is nothing like it in all of sports.

If they put shootouts into the playoffs, it's gong to kill an already dying sport. There is nothing more exciting in any sport by watching that first overtime moved into the second, third, fourth... That is without a doubt the best hockey you can watch, do or die.

Nah when it comes to the playoffs, they need to keep it they way it is. Shootouts are fun to watch but it takes out the teamplay out of the game, and pretty much is determined by what team has a better goalie. Thats cool in the regular season, you have 82 games to play, but not very fair in the playoffs

simple..NO SHOOTOUTS!!!!

July 24, 2009  10:58 AM ET

there is nothing more exciting than playoff overtime hockey, i remember watching the classic 2001 flyers against pittsburg 5ot game, sitting on the edge of the seat jumping up every 30 seconds for almost 6 hours... needless to say i had to invent a dog when it was time to pass in homework at school the next day. I can imagine how exciting a game 7 cup shootout to decide the champ... but NO SHOOTOUTS!!!

July 25, 2009  05:02 PM ET

Absolutely NO SHOOTOUTS in the playoffs. It is bad enough during the reg.season but I can't think of a more deplorable way to end a game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals with a shootout.

i agree NO SHOOTOUTS IN PLAYOFFS. Shoot out dont meen the better team wins. play till there is a winner. and i think they should get shoot outs right out of game . i also think a loosing team should not get any points they lost. no points. have 1 period of over time if it ends in a tie 1 point each if there is a winner then they get 2 points the looser gets zero. since when do you get points for loosing a game. dont make any sence to me

September 25, 2009  05:49 PM ET

Sudden death Playoff OT, no TV time outs, edge of your seat action...can't get any better than that!

Vote NO to shootouts, period!!

I am actually a fan of shootouts, but putting them in the playoffs is a terrible idea.

You gotta make teams earn the W legitimately in the postseason.
