NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > How 'bout them Cowboys...
October 17, 2010, 07:06 PM
...they're only one, er two ... three games out of the division lead. Yeah, they can make it up. They've only had some bad luck.

The ref made some bad calls? No. Dallas was missing "X" (fill in the blank player). uh, huh. They just had an isolated bad game? Nope.

Poor coaching. Poor discipline. Poor execution. What more do some of you people need to realize this Cowboys teams isn't going anywhere, except their living rooms in the post season?

Look, I'm a fan. An old fan. If you've watched the NFL and are a serious fan, then you can't sit at your keyboard and lie. This season is over. The coaches just do NOT demand excellence on the field. Further, play calling from the sideline is suspect, at best.

The season is over.

Yea......I think you are right there. I don't like the Cowboys, but I still feel for you. It's tough to see your team out this early in the year.

I agree that the coaches are a listless group of middle-aged men with no fire or ability to bring out the best in the 40 or so players who are not the "stars". I see a small core of skill positions who are very good but the un-sung heroes are NOT heroes. They're scrubs.

I think you're right. The problem is Jones....he hired Phillips because Phillips lacks the backbone to stand up to him. Jones needs to hire a coach that will do his job and Jones needs to back off and let him.

The problem is Jones' ego is entirely to large for that.

Memo to Jerry: Just shut up and sign the checks.

October 17, 2010  07:54 PM ET

The funny things is Roy Williams has "found his groove"..........while the rest of them seem to have gone south for the winter or something. I watched it, got disgusted, but I'll get over it. My avatar says it all.......lol

October 17, 2010  07:58 PM ET

Jones is getting the team he deserves. They're kind of like a stripper.....teasing and teasing. When he fires the coaches at the end of the year, and he will, don't expect anything different. He'll find another puppet. Like I said before, he'd do well taking lessons from the Rooneys, but he won't.

Great avatar!

I watched the Saints many years ago when the bag was popular, being that I live in southeast Texas, and they show here all the time......I figured it was appropriate, and all Cowboys fans should wear one for awhile, or until they win a game anyway.

agree totally. and i agree the season is over.... only 5 games into this season, and it really is over as far as playoffs are concerned. i'll still watch this team as i have for 35 yrs, but i know it is time for change. and i'm not so sure about romo.... he lacks heart, leadership and seems to put up good numbers along with INTs - the last in this game really hurt our chances. and, didn't we all know when we needed that drive at the end after the vikes scored... didn't we all just know it was not going to happen! sad to see our team at such a low point.

Romo likely gets disgusted with all of the boneheaded penalties the offense is creating. Make a big play and it gets called back for one thing or another. After awhile, those things will eat at you. I know if it was me, I would be aggravated to no end. Now, I'm not saying Romo is not at fault too, because that one INT was clearly on him, as it wasn't tipped. Great read by the defender.

Roy Williams seems to be the only one showing up to play. Now, if the rest of them would.

October 17, 2010  08:32 PM ET

romo likely does get disgusted. maybe he should chew a few players out since no coach will. i remember seeing aikman getting in players faces at times. romo is the leader and it is acceptable for the QB to do some **** chewing when warranted.

I wholeheartedly agree, but that kind of behavior is not acceptable in Camp Cupcake, or it would have already been invoked.

Ah Jerry, this is how it started with Al Davis. He had to be the biggest **** in the room. Now look at the Raiders. And while Oakland fans at least can take comfort in the fact that Al is on his last legs, Jerry promises to be around a while longer.

You are dead on. That has been the Cowboy's problem for years now.

Well, he can't stop from getting older, but he can keep getting face lifts for sure..........lol

It really is but then you look a the penalties and the picture comes in very clearly.....

October 18, 2010  06:26 AM ET

Jones mentioned he isn't making any mid-season changes at coaching or quarterback.

Really can't shelter Romo or Wade forever. Yeah, some people may claim it's Jason Garrett's fault and not Romo, but last I checked, there never was a Dallas play called' throw it right into the hands of the defender'

Ironic: this is one of the worst seasons in the NFL in that there are no elite teams, QB's , anything. And the teams that SI and Peter King and Don Banks pick every year for the Super Bowl (Chargers, Dallas, Green Bay) are doing terrible.

October 18, 2010  09:37 AM ET

Dallas is a product of their own environment...

The team is making great plays, only to have them come back on penalties...

I said it a week ago and I will say it again...

They are loosing games due to penalties and turnovers...

Skins - loss, penalty negates game winning touchdown to Roy Williams(who is playing well BTW)...

Bears - loss, Romo throws 3 picks.

Titans - loss, Romo has several tipped Int's and then the penalty that gave the short field.

Vikes - loss, Romo throws a late pick that was set up prior to that by the awesome return by Dez Bryant, only to be negated by the stupid holding penalty.

Dallas will continue to make dazzling plays and stupid mistakes all year long until a new regime comes in.

Jerry Jones continues to make stupid decisions by NOT firing Wade now to hopefully provide a spark...to me, that is more telling about his LACK of confidence in Garrett as a Head Coach.

In the end, we will be 7-9 or 8-8 at best and that is being VERY optimistic...leading to Wade and company being fired and Gruden or Cowher coming in.

How ironic is it that Gruden will be calling the game next week...maybe he can give Jerry a nudge....

i agree with you comments, Cowboys are done, they could spoil some teams hope, but the discipline is totally lacking due to the coaching, ownership and frankly ego's of the players. I thought this team had potential coming into the season, but due to that lack of discipline, the season as far as playoff aspirations are over. Is there any chance, I truly doubt it based on first their record and second, look at the schedule they have still yet to play. They went through the 'Weak' part of their schedule already. It gets harder now and the attitude will sink this team further in the depths.

I don't think the Cowboys are out of it, they've only played 1 division game and quite frankly, I don't think the Eagles or the Giants are power houses. The Redskins will fade. The Cowboys do not have the injuries the Packers do or other teams do, they just need to put together a couple victories, gain some confidence. Take care of the football and limit the penalties. Just do all this AFTER they play the Packers. :)

I'm glad someone has confidence in them, because most fans are already disgusted with their play. If there was some legitimate reasons for the way they're playing, such as being brain dead, then that's understandable. But, these guys KNOW what they have to do, and they keep on making the stupid mistakes.
I could make excuses, like the refs are "out to get them", but I'm not going to, as I don't think that's the case. The past season and a half, they've been waiting on Roy Williams to show up, and now that he has, the others are laying eggs, and they're rotten. These penalties and mistakes seem to happen at the most inopportune time, like when they do make a big play.
In my most humblest opinion, the Cowboys will be very lucky if they get a wild card. But I'm not going to hold my breath.
