TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras -- Forward Roger Rojas scored a goal in each half and Fabio De Souza added another late in the match to boost Olimpia to a 3-0 Group D victory over the Puerto Rico Islanders on Wednesday and into the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.

The win gave Olimpia (4-1-1) the group title with 13 points, followed by Toluca (10), Puerto Rico (eight) and FAS (two). Earlier in the evening, Toluca secured the other spot from the group with a 5-0 triumph over CD FAS in Toluca, Mexico.

Rojas lifted the Honduran side into a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute. After receiving the ball a meter outside the top of the left side of the penalty area, Rojas turned and fired a right-footed shot to the far right corner that eluded diving Puerto Rico goalkeeper Bill Gaudette.

The Honduran international added an insurance goal in the 77th minute. He bolted unmarked into the left side of the penalty area, turned, put the ball on his right foot and fired a bullet from a difficult angle into the far right side of the net.

Four minutes later, Olimpia left no doubt as De Souza tallied off a 20-meter blast to the right corner for a three-goal advantage.

Though the Islanders faced a must-win situation to advance to the next stage, Olimpia played as though it, and not the visitors, needed a victory in the opening half.

The Hondurans enjoyed a considerable territorial advantage, but could not solve the Puerto Rico defense or Gaudette.

Gaudette wasn't tested severely in the first half, but caught everything kicked or headed his way. His best save came in the 20th minute when he dived to his right to snare Olimpia captain Reynaldo Tiguath's one-bounce shot from 25 meters.

Puerto Rico played with a little more urgency early in the second half, but the Hondurans captured the momentum with their first goal.

Olimpia midfielder Oscar Boniek Garcia almost scored an insurance goal in the 70th minute as his long-range shot bounded off the right post and ricocheted off Gaudette over the crossbar.

As the second half wore one, the Islanders pushed forward more, but Olimpia's defense and goalkeeper Noel Valladares stifled the visitors' attacks.

The Islanders' next challenge will be against the Carolina Railhawks in the USSF Second Division championship series.
