I think where the Bengals got lost this year was in not staying patient with the running game. Looking a Ced Ben's stats he's got 3.9 per carry but only 406 yards this year - or 81 yards per game. (Compared to 96 yards per game last year).
I realize that with TO and CJ on the same team there's a temptation to want to step on the gas a bit soon but it pays to be patient.
I'm beginning to wonder about Carson, though. He was hotter than a Puerto Rican credit card a few years ago, but has cooled off of the last few years. He's missing wide open WR's. I understand missing a guy that's 20 yards downfield because you thought he was going to break it in when he broke it outside, but when it's a reciever in the flat.....no excuse for that.
Marvin looks like deer in the headlights when it comes to coaching. He was a brilliant DC in Baltimore but he's a bad HC. He can't make adjustments on the fly and he's not a leader.

Can't argue with any of your points Rayne, nice summation.

Hey GSH 1,Good Luck with the Bears!!,I'll be rooting for them too.
Good luck to your Bengals as well Eazy.
Marvin isn't a "great" coach, but he's BY FAR the best one that has had to suffer under Mike Brown's iron fist of idiocy.
I can't understand why a team that drafted Shipley thought they needed to bring in T.O. Shipley would have been great to fill the shoes Housh left (but I think Shipley is actually better than T.J.) I haven't heard of any ego clashes between T.O. and Chad, but I'm sure they are going to happen, to the team's detriment.
As for Palmer-- I've been saying it for years-- he is too highly paid, and if he really wants the team to succeed, he would ask for a drastic pay cut so that the team could afford to build a winner around him. (Not likely.)
I forgot to add-- "Stupid Bengals".
<grumble, grumble>
QUOTE(#13):
Ok,Mike Brown is a tight fisted ****,But,I don't think Mike is the Problem,Marv's been here for 8 yearsand now He lower than 500%[in other words?,He sucks,is not and HC,nor a leader, want too blame Anyone?Blame Mike Brown for"Keeping Him" all this Time,I would have gotten rid of Him 3yrs ago,As far as Carson?'He retires or goes to another Team, either Way his ass should be on the bench, right now[I would have put Jordan in in the 2nd QTR with the Falcons]],as far as those "super Star" WR's?,TO is gone and so should Chad Johnson[trade Him for a Draftpick also.]And Yeah Shipley and Gresham is our future,We need to draft a QB 1st next year.
I do think Mike Brown is more of a problem than you think-- he has had a big hand in a lot of the personnel blunders that the Bengals have had since he took over as owner/GM. Not just the mistakes in the coaches he has hired, but mistakes in demanding that the Bengals waste draft picks on terrible choices (Akili Smith being the classic example, of course).
I still don't agree that Marvin sucks, but I think you're right that it's his time to go. He has become accustomed to losing-- I think it shows in his press conferences.
As for Carson, you're right that he will probably retire or go to another team. There's no way he would accept the kind of pay cut I think he deserves that might enable the Bengals to build a team. I don't think Jordan is a solution at all, though.
As for the two "star" receivers-- total agreement-- get rid of T.O. to anybody, and trade Chad Ochocinco while he still seems valuable to some other team.
I do like Shipley, though-- I think he was the best pick that the Bengals made this past draft.
QUOTE(#8):
Mz Rayne,We agree,Marv ain't a good HC,He's been there longer than any other HC[including the Old Man,Paul Brown.]also got a chitty
record hovering around 500% win and loss career
..,And he needs too go along with Offensive Coach Bratowski, and the Bengals have too look too the future and I don't see Carson Palmer in it, [along with TO and Chad.]and Yeah,We got Jermain Gresham and J.Shipley as the Next new targets, add in Brian Leonard as FB-TE also. The whole Team is in conflict with priorities that have never came close too expectations so far,and I don't see it changing anytime soon,as Marv,Brat and Carson and the twins[chad and TO being the main problem.]imo,And Yer right,Carson,Marv and Brat are NOT LEADERS,never will be again,Carson's problems started and ended with that Knee injury and has never recovered from it,never will either,He's just taking up space right now and too Stupid too know it or won't admit it,anyways, there should be a "House Cleaning"After this Year cuz,the Problems is obvious too anyone that watch's the Team every Week.[Losing],and yeah Ole marv should be going to Buffalo next Year ifn they have next Year and take Brat and Carson,TO and Chad with them.We need too Draft a QB on Our 1st pick.[it's that bad]Also,The offense has Had more drive killing penalties than most of the Other teams combined"Holding Number 74/77 10 yrds 3rd down",or "encroachment Number 63 5 yrds still 1st down",So they've done it all too themselves...I can forgive mistakes but not willful stupidity.
How is this possible?
If you win all your games that is 100%. Just how do you win 500%? How can you be 5 times better than 100%?
Please I would like to know.
QUOTE(#20):
It's gonna be a short season for the Bengals..
It feels like a LOOOONG season, though!
You stick with your team through the good and the bad, but we Bengals fans sure have to put up with a lot of the bad.
(Last season was mostly fun, though, but I hated seeing them "phone it in" at the end.)
Get rid of Chris Palmer. She stinks. Passer like a girl. How does she have a job. I wouldn't let her pass the water bottle. NOw I know why the first name is female. What garbage!!!!!!!!!
