NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > The Silver lining.....
October 26, 2010, 10:50 AM
With Dallas now at 1-5 and their season over WITH Romo still playing, loosing him for 8-10 weeks or ultimately the season was a good thing.

1st off, for the fans who were arguing on the other thread about Romo being over-rated...well, you are about to find out just how IMPORTANT he is to this team.

If Kitna comes in and goes 6-4 or 7-3 with them, then obviously Romo was over-rated and it is what it is.

What we will find though, is that Kitna will get us 3 wins, maybe 4 and Dallas will end up 5-11.

The Silver lining in this is that Dallas will end up with a Top5 pick...we will get rid of Wade Phillips...and the team will benefit from a new coach, adding good level NCAA players in with this already talented team and they will get a softer schedule based on record.

As a fan, I will still watch the team fight week after week but, it is obvious that now, we are ready for the draft....shame its not even Halloween yet....guess we know how Lions and Bills fans feel every year!

LOL.........

Amen, well said brother....I'm still seething though.

They should drop Romo and go for a better QB. I think they should also work on their D some.

October 26, 2010  10:59 AM ET

Well said, but this year is gonna suck!

I disagree on just a few points....

I don't think the Cowboys improve until Jerry hires a GM. He's the biggest thing holding them back. Phillips is a puppet that allows Jerry to get away with what he wants - ergo, I don't think he's going anywhere.

I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that, if the Cowboys go 6-3 or 7-3 from here on out it means Romo was over rated. By that logic, the Steelers went 3-1 without Ben. Does that mean we'd go 12-4 for the year with him on the bench?

October 26, 2010  11:15 AM ET

Don't you Dallas fans get it? Wade is the puppet of your owner, why else, WHY ELSE would he still be there?
JJ does not want a real coach, this is his team and he is going to run it into the ground ala Al Davis. America your team is run by an oil magnet with an ego problem, enjoy!

DM;
Most of us Cowboys fans DO get it. Jerry Jones is so full of himself that it's maddening. If you missed seeing His Nibs showcase himself right before kickoff last night, you missed seeing what he is all about. Publicity (even negative publicity is good for the Cowboys....his words), attention, and glamor. Of course he also wants the team to be first in their own stadium playing for all the marbles, but that's not going to happen.
I agree with what you say, wholeheartedly. Until this man learns to delegate authority and let REAL football people run his team, then it's going to be the same ol same ol every year. Maybe this is his comeuppance, with the team playing as they are, floundering like a fish out of water.
The stats being as they are, means nothing in the W-L column. They could be first in everything, but 1-5 tells the whole story.
Yes, we fans do "get it"........:-)...Unfortunately, His Nibs does not, and likely never will.

Well, the Giants dropped Romo, for 6 to 8 weeks anyway and maybe the rest of the season. But, the question is.....who would the Cowboys go get? I often wondered what would have happened had they got Brady Quinn when they had the opportunity? Not saying he'd have done any better than he did in Cleveland, but it's possible.

Jon Kitna is a bit better than Brad "Noodle Arm" Johnson, but he is also 38 years old. To be fair to Kitna, he's not had a snap in 2 years, but he's still OLD, regardless. With the O line playing as they have, Kitna is not mobile enough to get out of his own way. McGee will likely be starting soon.

I thought Dez Bryant was a good Sliver lining... Austin dropped some balls, Roy..well It's Roy..lol ... Dez is a bright spot for the future !!! Thought he looked Great!!!

Rayne, I agree with your assessment about Jerry Jones and Wade, wholeheartedly. But, Jones is too full of himself to do hire a GM, or a real coach.
In my opinion, 6-3 or 7-3 is a reach. Of the next 10 games, I see only 3 or 4 that could be winnable. The Jags and the Lions. Maybe the Cardinals and Redskins. These games are a big IF. I don't think Kitna will be able to do it......Maybe McGee, but he's still raw.

Dez Bryant gives us some hope. But, he's also just one person. It would be a shame if this whole teams goes sewer, with Dez the only bright spot. The people on this team know what they have to do, and how to do it. But, they are failing miserably. They aren't getting any younger either.

I blame most of this season on coaching, most notably Wade and Garrett.

October 26, 2010  01:03 PM ET

Jerry is to blame for Wade, but as for personnel decisions, there are many involved in the process.

Like I said to start...I think Dallas will be 5-11 when its all said and done, nabbing a Top 5 pick and earning Wade a Defensive Coordinator job somewhere else.

Cowher or Gruden come in, build more young talent from the Top of the draft and add that to the talent already here...Romo comes back healthy and with a new coach in place, this team plays better football in the near future.

It is pointless to fire Wade now...Jerry has to pay the man anyway and the season is pretty much toast now that Romo is gone...might as well let Wade sink the ship more and fire him at seasons end.

As far as the rest of the league goes Dex just played himself out of the punt return business. Like Hester, teams will elect to kick out rather than to him, just like Deion couldn't get people to throw to his side for the most part. Hard to make an impact when you don't have the ball.
Bryant looked GREAT last night, fighting for extra yards, twisting like a pretzel. Very impressive.

Deep breath SweetCakes, better to ignore them than to be a hater. And most of the folks here are actually pretty civil compared to other sites. Better intellect here.

IMHO reason teams (and fans) hate the Cowboys so much is that this team has beaten these teams at very memorable times and left a bitter taste in their mouth in the past. Gotta take the good with the bad. Does anyone hate the Jaguars? I think they had the Colt's number for a while but when you are 12-X or 13-X you can afford to drop one to the Jags and not worry about it too much.

Right now we all pray that Jerry gets one more trip to the plastic surgeons and they try to "spruce" him up a bit and the next face lift pulls up SOOO high that he ends up with a Dick for a nose and breathing out his corn-holio and poisons himself sooner than later.

OP says 3 wins, maybe 4 from Kitna. Thats 3, maybe 4 times as many wins as Romo has given this year

The loss of Tony Romo is significant.

You sir are correct! They went from not winning to NO chance of winning.

Truth be told Kitna will take them to some victories (even a blind squirrel finds a nut (the team not Kitna)) but there are major problems on this team (master of the obvious am I) that lie in the no-name players. The team is made up of 8-10 stars but the other 12ish starters are not better than average therefore the team flounders. O-Line and DBs are a weakness again.
