Outlook

First year head coach Avery Johnson is looking for a big improvement in New Jersey from their historically terrible 12-win season a year ago. I do believe this team will improve from a year ago, but they won???t be playoff contenders or anywhere close.

The Nets swung for the fences this offseason, but they weren???t able to land the big name they wanted. They lost out on the LeBron James sweepstakes and couldn???t land Carmelo Anthony in a trade after it looked like a done deal.

It???s not necessarily a bad thing that they didn???t land the big names. New owner Mikhail Prokhorov could have gone in and overpaid for Joe Johnson, but that wouldn???t have helped them in the long run. I do think they overpaid for Travis Outlaw, but the future is pretty bright in New Jersey, especially if Derrick Favors pans out.

But, it???s going to be another tough season for the Nets. I think Brook Lopez will have an All-Star type season and Devin Harris should get back to playing like he was in 2008 which will help the Nets improve a bit.

I just don???t have a whole lot of faith in anyone besides those two. They should improve significantly, but not near enough to get into the postseason.
