NFL  > General NFL  > Steelers atrocious secondary

Is there any hope of the Steelers fixing their atrocious secondary anytime soon?

Forget, for a moment, that offensive (absolutely!) coordinator Arians went for it on fourth down TWICE knowing damn well that Brees would have short field to work with if they didn't convert. And despite the fact that the Steelers secondary (besides Troy) totally blows.

I'm a Steelers fan, but I'm damn sick and tired of teams going up and down the field when our vaunted pass rush doesn't put constant pressure on the opposing QB!

Why does Troy consistently have to do 100% of his job, 40% of Taylor's, 50% of Gay's, etc, etc?

I was the first one to complain about our secondary last year - even before things fell apart when Troy got injured.

I was the only Steelers fan I knew a year before that to say that Super Bowl XLIII was NOT gonna be a blowout and that the score was gonna be incredibly close specifically because our secondary has a habit of choking away huge chunks of yardage at REALLY bad times - especially against good quarterbacks.

Hell, I've been criticizing our secondary for YEARS now!

My question is this: Is it finally time for the Steelers to get away from their defense with all these blitz packages that hide an obvious Achilles heel? Is it time to start drafting defensive backs WHO CAN ACTUALLY COVER before hoarding pass rushers - take corner backs and safeties in earlier rounds and pass rushers in later rounds?

What say you?

That was a damn good game last night Blackgold. But, you should be thankful that the Steelers are indeed winning. The Saints are a capable team and they didn't win the SB last year for being slouches. They're pretty good in their own right. I saw the graphic that Threadkillus Maximus spoke about, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, that's pretty impressive, but as they say "On any given Sunday......."

It could be worse, ya know. You could be a Cowboys fan.........lol.........

Yeah,Bull,Sorry about the Boys,I thought they could turn it around,But Like the Bengals,They just couldn't cut it Yesterday.Kitan sucked in Cincy, and as you can see?,He ain't any better since!!!But at least We'll be sharing the celler this Year!!hahahaha!!!,But really?,I'm gonna hang tough till the Bengals are Mathematicaly eliminated, which should be even faster since Carson and Company just ain't got it this Year and the Def secondary and D Front Line is decimated also...But We got a helluva Punter and Field Goal kicker!!!

Of all the INT's yesterday, only ONE was Kitna's fault. The rest were because of the receivers...tipped balls. This whole team has given up. They MAY win 2 more games this year, but I even have doubt about those.

The offensive line is a big concern. The secondary isn't. Ryan Clark is a very good safety, Ike Taylor's only big weakness is catching the ball, and Bryant McFadden is solid. if the offensive line ever gels, this is the best team in the AFC.

I agree, and We just didnt play our game last night. The O line had been solid all season till last night and Ben was off as well. I am not upset at all we lost to the Saints as Bull pointed out they are a good team. I would much rather lose to good teams than the teams we lost to last year. I am looking at this as a wake up call. And one we could benefit from down the road, Still lot of season left. This is by no means the end of our season. THey need to regroup get it together and move on to this week. Im not giving up on them just yet. They are still a good team. Just had a bad game. It happens.

It isn't a disgrace losing to the defending Super Bowl Champions. I think you're taking this loss much too hard.

I see Mr Insigthful is here. Creepy Stalker more like it. I guess you get your kicks out of trying to provoke arguements out of women on here. Are we compensating for something or lack of something. I wont tell anyone it will be our little secret.

I agree with you, it's time to draft some new corner backs and full safeties. Troy isn't going to stay healthy forever, and the Steelers need to think long term.
