NFL  > General NFL  > Bad calls in the Eagles Colts game

The "blow to the head" on Cole to Manning was a joke. Yes he came in contact with Mannings helmet but that was not a "blow" to the head that was meant to hurt or injure. The contact was a swipe from Cole to get the ball knocked out of Manning's hand. It extended the drive (automatic 1st down plus 15 yards). I hate those kind of calls, there should be some reason or thought coming from the Zebras. I am a huge fan of Mannings and would not like to see him hurt but that call was unnecessary.

In addition, there was an unnecessary roughness on the play where Collie got knocked out. In slow motion it appeared that EVERYONE was going in with a shoulder but when Collie ducked to absorb the blow the helmets came into contact. To me that is incidental as there was no intent to lead with the helmet. The eagle will be writing a check to the league for that, not his fault.

I know that some will come on here and quote me the rules, I get it, I know the rules. I just think these were bad calls.

I am pleased that Collie is OK, it looked bad when he "seized" up and got all rigid, always scary.

I think if Collie was only dazed or shook it off immediately there would have been no flag or the flag would have been picked up. I think they didn't want to have another player laid out after a collision and no flag. That's the wrong mentality to have IMHO.

The Collie hit was legal. The hit was hard, fast, and a good football play. The receiver caught the ball, check. The receiver made a move up field, check (See replay Turned, tucked, and stepped up field.) The receiver tried to protect himself Check- (He ducked). Then he was hit and fumbled the ball. So what... should they get a 5 cushion like the punter to catch the ball before they are hit? It is football. There was no launch and the ball carrier did have the ball. The ball was not overthrown. The hit did not come late. Collie???s head seemed to get pushed into the head collision by the other defender. Point blank ???The man caught the ball, took a hit, and dropped it. Just another bad call by the men in stripes. And the so called blow to the head??? I know the difference between a blow and a touch.

Unusual name and unusual nice analysis for first post! I like your "check" style of going over the points. Welcome to the boards.

I think the referees are nearly paralyzed by the HD analysis they are subject to...tough tiddy, suck it up that's why they get paid. Get it right or better yet find a way for the Head Zebra on the field to over-rule his assosciate on the spot with little to no fan-fare.
