NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Hawkins is toast - finally
November 9, 2010, 02:46 AM
Not official yet, but the reports are all over the internet and media.

Looks like blowing a 28 pt 4th qtr lead to lowly Kansas was the final straw for the Buffs.

Associate coach Brian Cabral will take over for now.

Life doesn't get any easier next year.
I wonder who the new coach will be.

Hawkins is like Wade Phillips. He will never get fired...

Wow, CU will suck up a B12 buyout and a HC buyout. I bet something not so nice is about to happen to student activity fees there.

JJ gave Wade the kiss of death when he said that he would not fire Wade mid season.

Similar to the dreaded 'vote of confidence.'

Wade just do not go fishing with anyone from Texas.

Blowing a lead like that will get you fired but the double whammy was that he lost to TURNER GILL! Losing to TURNER GILL means your a worse coach than him! Paul Johnson of Georgia Tech almost got pinked slipped when he lost to TURNER GILL! TURNER GILL is the worst coach ever.

COLORADO would be smart to hire MIKE LEACH! going to the PAC-12 where no one has defense would make his passing attack go for at least 4-500 yards a game! Colorado should get MIKE LEACH

NORTH TEXAS should take Dan Hawkins....he knows how to coach small schools!

I can't see any AQ school hiring Mike Leach. Too much drama, especially somewhere like Colorado who is looking for a fresh start. Wonder if Colorado will go after Petersen?

agree, COLORADO needs a fresh start.....HAWKINS came from BOISE and we saw how that turned out. I wonder if PETERSON would go and how he would do following in Hawkins steps! Then Again why leave Boise where things are GOLDEN right now!

It's about time. Get rid of him before they get to the Pac-12. Does this mean Cody Hawkins isn't on the team anymore?

The fine folks at the University of Buffalo would disagree with you. Seems Turner Gill did pretty well by them.

Rumor has it they'll be bringing back Bill McCartney. He's not JoePa's age but he's got to be getting up in years. As for Petersen, why would he leave Boise? The man is worshipped there, and now that BSU is going to the Mountain West they can afford to pay him adequately.

He's still the starting QB.
And this Sat is senior day.
Awkward...

I've heard that also. But my rabbit senses tell me this would be a desperation move by Colorado.

McCartney was a fabulous coach in his heyday. He won the AP NC at Colorado in 1990.
But he retired in 1994, and is 70 years old.

A major cfb program does not bring in a new coach that is 70 years old.

I completely agree. As I said, he's not JoePa age but he's got to be getting up there.

Colorado has to be considered a desirable job so they shouldn't have any trouble attracting a good coach. Having the wisdom/ability to hire one is another matter.

Is he taking his son with him and heading home (wherever that is)?

True.
And JoePa's age doesn't affect him much, due to his history.

The Pac 10 has (most likely) the best collection of coaches in the country. So Colorado needs to hire an equally good coach, or they will remain a struggling team.
