ANTIGUA, Guatemala -- Omar Browne scored the game's only goal and Panama defeated Honduras 1-0 Wednesday in a Central American Football Union under-17 qualifying match at Estadio Pensativo.

The win places Panama first in the three-team Group 2 after one round.

In a game played under pleasant conditions, scoring opportunities were scarce. However, the best chances came shortly after the opening whistle.

The first came through Honduras' Jonathan Tejada, who failed to capitalize on an error in the Panamanian defense.

Shortly afterwards, a Jorman Aguilar attempt was easily handled by Honduran goalkeeper Roberto Lopez.

In the 9th minute, Browne struck for what would prove to be the game-winning goal, converting from inside the penalty area after some good work down the left wing.

The second half proved uneventful with the exception of five yellow cards being issued by referee Franklin Jarquin; four to Panama and one to Honduras.

Group Two play continues Friday, when Panama hopes to clinch a place in February's CONACACF Under-17 Championship with a win or tie against Guatemala.
