MEXICO CITY - Tigres vice president Hector Gonzalez Inarritu has been designated as the new director of national teams for Mexico, filling the position vacated by last month's resignation of Nestor de la Torre.

The 53-year-old Inarritu also has been vice president of perennial Mexico City power America and was a head of the Mexican Football Federation's referees' commission.

He replaces de la Torre, who resigned in October amid reports of a revolt by several players on the national team, led by captain and New York Red Bulls midfielder Rafa Marquez. Within a week of his resignation, his brother, Toluca coach Jose Manuel de la Torre was chosen as manager of the senior national team.

Gonzalez's first duty in his new position was to travel with Mexican federation president Justino Compeon to La Plata , Argentina to attend Thursday's draw for next year's Copa America, which will include the Mexican under-23 team.
