NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > One Game... A Spark...

I think I'm gonna have to eat my hat. One game, but what a difference. I was one who called for Jason Garrett's head, but if last night's game against the Giants is an indicator, this is a different team from the one we've seen this season.

There was discipline. Much fewer plain out stupid penalties. The players played with emotion and weren't just "going through the motions". The ball was spread out offensively allowing the running game to free up a bit. The defensive secondary, even with key players out for part of the game, held their own.

Yeah, one game. Call it like you will, however they played the division leader, with poise and came out with a win. Let's see how the second half of the season plays out.

TexasNative66,
Very pleasant results but the secondary allowed like 375 passing yards I think. YES some big plays and turnovers from the secondary but they still need help from the front line to apply pressure. Defense has to get off the field.

Overall a very pleasant surprise and props to the RHG!

First off...the Giants have been successful in piling up yards on us going back to last season.

They just have our number in that regard.

We, on the other hand, always came up short...but not yest.

There are many games to go, but Garrett is more than capable of getting this team back into discipline mode.

Lets also think about something...Dallas lost Romo 3 games ago...I do not care who you are...you lose a good QB like that and it hurts.

The team gave up when they saw how pathetic Kitna had been.

Now, they can see something is there and guess what? Tony will be back soon.

I still think Dallas is going 5-11 for the season....but Garrett has at least got people's interest.

by the time romo is ready to return, we might have 2 games left - and they'd likely not play him. why risk more injury when the season is done. losing romo hurt, but again, we were 1-4 with him. if we win 3-4 more games this season it would be a success and a reflection on garrett. especially with this remaining schedule... i'd start to wonder if the problem was only wade and if the team might have also lost confedience in their QB. lots of questions to answer in the remaining 6 games.

November 15, 2010  01:11 PM ET

No doubt. The team is still, at best, middle of the pack. They also aren't going to the Super Bowl ... IMO. . However, I liked what Garrett said about some of his motivational technique. "Hey, let's just do good on Wednesday. Then, let's just come in and do good on Thursday. Then, Friday." He made no illusion about coming out and playing Super Bowl caliber football. Again, this is but one, single game, but there is something to be said about what happened in that game.

Part of me wonders if the team, somewhere in the back of their brains, just wanted Phillips gone. Kitna just opened the field, but why hadn't he done that prior to last night's game? The defensive front played with increased intensity. Same players. Yes, the secondary took hits on some yards, but they made big plays.

Some commentary from some Giants players were in the area of, "they watched our game films and knew what we were going to do". That being the case, hadn't the team been made to view game films previously? Just what was being done to prepare the team for their next opponents?

One game, but it was a nice game. Now, on to next week and the second half of the season.

November 15, 2010  01:32 PM ET

Garrett might get the credit, but the players might be playing better to keep their head off the chopping block...there's a good chance that a lot of them realize the amount of talent around them, and that they could be losing the opportunity of playing for the Cowboys next season when they have a real, solid chance to be playing long into the playoffs...finish strong and keep your job...good luck the rest of the way Cowboys and Dallas fans.

A Giant win for the Cowboys hats off to them and the organization, they looked like a totally different team than the one that played in G.B.

Romo was said to be out 6 weeks...he has missed 3 weeks now...if my math is correct, 3 more weeks is 3 more games, leaving us with 4 to play.

I agree, if he is out til 1-2 games left, screw it...but he will be back before then and he will play.

1-4 with him is misleading since it was his holding penalty that cost them the Redskins game, nor was it his celebration penalty that allowed the short field for the return in the Titan game.

Dallas NEEDS Tony at QB, that is a given....when you are the 4th highest rated QB of ALL TIME and the 2nd most accurate QB of ALL TIME, your team needs you.

Questioning Romo is ridiculous.

This team needed DISCIPLINE...period...

November 16, 2010  09:24 AM ET

FYI...to add...

If you think a 38yr old Kitna is the answer or if you would like to go back to the days of Quincy Carter or Drew Bledsoe, I think they are both available....

You guys have some serious short term memory I guess....

Tony is 37-17 as the starter...that's 69% winning percentage....

He is 29yrs old and now will FINALLY have a good head coach again...hopefully....lol....

November 17, 2010  12:04 PM ET

GarretTop is just an excuse for Jerry not to hire a real GM. If he keeps garret as his head coach then he wont have to pay a REAL head caoch to sit on his butt next year when they lock out the players.

I know everyone wants to be hard on Jerry...but facts are facts...while being GM he has 3 SuperBowl wins and has produced the best winning percentage of ANY NFC team the last 6yrs combined...

Jerry has got the players needed, it has been his skills in finding a good coach that has been the issue.

With Cowher and Gruden both available...there are no excuses now.

Also...if I am Jerry, I would NOT want to pay a coach 4-6mil per season if a lockout occurs, so it could be quite some time before one gets hired....and rightfully so...

Do not forget, Jerry still has to pay Wade's contract, assuming he does not take another NFL job next season...plus I think Garrett is under contract too...

If Garrett produces a big turn around, it would make sense to keep him at the helm until the lockout is fixed.

stats... stats.... stats..... that's all anyone can EVER offer on romo, wonder why?? you want stats - ok, romo will be 31 next yr and has one playoff win under his belt. Aikman and Brady at 28 yrs had 3 SB rings on their hands. i like those stats a little better than romo's stats, but we can talk stats all day long. where are the playoff wins - romo simply does not have them.

didn't see anywhere here where someone suggested Kitna was the answer. and yes we've had some dogs at QB since aikman. so have a lot of teams and they make adjustments as we have. but why didn't we get a real backup QB or even someone to compete with romo? why didn't we get colt mccoy? he went low in the what 3rd or 4th round. a lot of people are questioning romo and for good reason.... his record in Nov/Dec stinks and that's crunch time. oh, and FYI... romo was born april 2010... that puts him 31 yrs next april by my math.

I love Aikman's stats...but Troy didnt win those games...the TEAM did.

Unfortunately, Tony has not had the team to do it yet...and for that, you are correct.

Tony notched his first playoff win last season though and then with the regression this year is why we are talking about a new head coach in Dallas.

If you think Colt McCoy would have made a difference with Tony down, then give me what you are smoking....

You said not to talk stats but you keep bringing them up.

Once again, Tony is not to blame here....

Tony is a Top 5 QB in the NFL...Dallas needs a new coach...lets get that first, plus develop some more talent and get a Defensive Playcaller that is not so predictable and we can moan and groan if he doesn't get it done.

Tony at 31 is young btw...he has a solid 4-5 years left in him....hell, Kitna is 38 and just tossed for over 300yds...so let's not talk about Tony's age quite yet.

I partially agree with you there Jeff.....Romo cannot win anything by himself, but...The 07 season, 13-3, which should have been 15-1...Romo was 27.....their best chance to make the SB. Romo DID have the team to do it, but it was more 'important' to have celebrity gal pals and Cabo vacations. It was also 'important' to lose the last 2 games of the season. They lost momentum and thus, one and done.
COACHING, my friends. Wade allowed stupid things like that, because he was too busy being buddies with his subordinates. Chances are, Romo will never have another team like he had in 07, and thus may never win a SB. You can't say they didn't have their chances, because THEY DID.
