NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > NFL BIAS AGAINST STEELERS? CHUNG OFF THE HOOK FOR WARD HIT.....?
November 18, 2010, 10:05 PM
It's really funny ( and not in the HA HA sense ) that Patrick Chung's hit on a clearly defenseless Hines Ward ( per the newly enforced NFL rules ) was neither flagged or apparently penalized/fined otherwise.....

In stark contrast to James Harrison's almost weekly issues with "questionable" hits, NO ONE has said a word amongst the media about Ward's concussion. Especially in light of the pattern of play established by Merriweather's blatant hit on Todd Heap several games ago, it seems hypocritical to treat this differently than the MULTIPLE fines Steelers defenders have been assessed this season.

I saw the play and the contact was shoulder to chest first and then the helmets banged together. Chung did NOT appear to lead with his helmet.

I do understand your frustration as this rule is hard to apply evenly. Clearly heads are going to collide when you stick them on the end of a flexible neck--they move. I think the NFL is trying to stop the spearing with the helmet and into the other player's helmet.

EZ,
Oh I see your point and am well aware on how Heinz likes to poach and catch defenders off guard when they are focused on the ball carrier and he blindsides them. His hits are borderline legal but his intent is questionable. Hitting a man when he can't see you is always a bit punk in my opinion

No bias against the Steelers AT ALL.

Patrick Chung's hit was clean.

Shame that Ward was injured on the play because he's a great receiver and a tough guy, but in no way, shape, or form was Chung's hit dirty.

NFL made the right decision.

Guys the player who hit Hines Ward was James Sanders not Patrick Chung. I thought that Sanders would be fined for making contact with his helmet. Because that's what the rules say. But I also thought the contact was incidental and not blatant. But the rules say you are not supposed to make contact with in that way or so we are told. I leave all that other stuff about Hines Ward up to you guys.

Maybe if your WR's blocked more like Hines, you might win a game once in a while.

Didn't your team just get their lunch handed to them...You need to worry about your teams ability to make adjustments, and get back on the winning track, and stop worrying about EZ's Bengals...he is doing enough worrying for his team already...lol

Some people say Ward is a dirty player, I disagree with that...but he sure got what he dishes out.

And he never whines about it, right? When was the last time you heard Hines complaining about a hit he took?

Never.

He turns around and does the same to other people.

That's why us girls don't play the game.

PS...I could have sworn my Steelers lost by 13. I wasn't aware that was 'getting one's lunch handed to them'.

But going by that standard, you got yours handed to you by the Giants when you lost by 14.

Just sayin'....

What do the Bears have to do with this thread...
You reference to the Bears game against the Giants the score was 3-0 with 3 minutes left in the third...

But the Pats & Steelers score was 23-3 entering the fourth quarter...that is getting your lunch handed to you...The Bears have had only 23 points scored on them once this year...and they are 7-3 and in first place, when you get there, you can shoot off your mouth...until then, know your role...lol

You are blatantly blind if you think it was a shoulder first hit.

At a very minimum there should have been a fine. If Harrison had delivered that blow like that he would have been fined 100,000.
