Singletary will be given his pink slip at the end of the year. Who will replace him?

Wade Phillips or Brad Childress?

Bull, that's just cruel. I wouldn't be shocked to hear Holmgren's named mentioned. He's a former assistant. He reportedly wants to get back on sidelines and, I believe his permanent home is in the Bay Area if not in San Francisco itself. I wouldn't be mad if Wade Phillips was named DC.

Yeah, but I was just funnin'. I meant no offense.
Wade lost his defense here, and until he quits thinking he's as good as Tom Landry, he may not fit anywhere.
Wade is from my hometown listed<<< and I was glad he's went far, but he's reached the knot in the rope ladder, and he's just not cut out to be a HC.

Singletary would be a great fit in Dallas. Cowboy fans would love him!

Jerry Jones did interview him, along with several others, before going with Wade. I believe he would work well here, but would he be able to work with Jerry? Not sure anyone could work with Jones myself.

I'm sure Lovie has the type of personality to work with with Jerry.

You're probably right. I guess the Cowboys will never win another SB as long as Skeletor lives.

Would it really be so bad to bring back Steve Mariucci as coach? He was a good coach there previously and his stint in Detroit was setup for failure by Matt Millen and Joey Harrington. Maybe he could even bring Deion Sanders to be his secondary coach. Plus Sanders is quite popular especially with the younger talent and could possiblly draw in some good FAs plus he has a very good eye for young diamond in the rough DBs.

Maybe dumb and never a chance but it was just a thought.

Singletary's season so far? Well you started the season with your hand picked offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye and Alex Smith as a confirmed OB. Your team was supposed to breeze through the NFC West, no more Kurt Warner, new coach Pete Carroll, and St. Louis. Some were saying that you would have somewhere between a 11-5 record or at worst a 9-7. You fired Jimmy Raye to save your own job when everyone knew he was talentless. Last week the 49ers were shut out at home for the first time since 1977, when things like that happen in a good year they are often overlooked but not when you are 3-7, not only are the fans loosing faith but so are the newer players on your team. This team will really go south if Singletary is kept for another year, or they can right themselves and get back on track and utilize the talent they have accumulated. I wanted Holmgren but I think he is locked into a contract with Cleveland for several more years as their GM. York should have jumped on that opportunity a year ago. Mariucci would be good because of the need for a QB mentor. You have a good defensive coordinator now you need to get an offensive minded Head Coach, and if the new coach decides that Mike Johnson has some possibilities then they can keep him as their OC.

^^^^^^^What would be perfect is if the 49ers reunited Holmgren and Mariucci. Holmgren as GM/Head Coach and Mariucci as the QB coach and OC, with the plan for Mariucci to eventually take over in 5 years or so. If that were to happen then I'd put money on the 49ers to win the Super Bowl with in 2 years.

If I was Mariucci, I'd stay at the NFL Network, and never coach again. Got a good job, pays well I'm sure, and no headaches.

Holmgren is done with coaching and Mariucci has a cushy job with the NFL network. The chances of either coaching in San Francisco are slim and none.

I doubt if it will happen myself. But who would have ever thought that Pete Carroll would leave his cushy job at USC in which he was treated like a god, it had more perks and pays about the same as a pro coach. How mindless can it be to be on a show discussing the weekly what ifs of every football game, working for the NFL Network that can only afford to air 6 Thursday night games a year can't be paying their prognosticators that much. Brian Billick and Steve Mariucci are to smart and ambitious and will only be on the NFL network till a better job comes along, coaching is in their blood.

I seriously doubt it will be anybody looking for a GM/HC job. I don't see John York tellling his son to step aside and let someone else fill in for him. So that would probably nix Holmgren. He's power hungry.
I think Fox will probably be the #1 coach on most teams list, who is looking for a HC with experience. He would would fit well in SF and Bud Adams seems more than willing to let him walk.

As long as they still have a chance to win the division as anybody still does in the NFC West, and with a lockout almost guaranteed, who is going to hire a coach to watch a lockout, and draw a paycheck.
