Unless there is a CBA...there will be no off season, no OTA's, no trades, no free agents...
The owners have planned a March 1, 2011 lockout date, after that date their can be no personnel changes, except the draft.
Once there is a CBA signed, there will be abbreviated version of the off season.
For the sake of arguement lets say they sign the CBA in July...the entire off season would have to fit in that window from when they sign the agreement and the fist game of the season.
There were talks on Monday and according to some in attendance, progess was made. They seem to have found common ground on things. It also appears that both sides are done with the 'blowing smoke' phase of negotiations and are eager to get things done.
I liked the proposal the players sent to the owners regarding the extra two games....they get a larger share of the gate, there is an extra week off added and each team recieves an extra 4 players added to their roster.

The talks on Monday were about the 18 game schedule....there is a 20 Billion dollar difference
in compensation, they are not close to an agreement.
They can not use replacement players since the owners are the ones who will put the lockout in place. The union will decertify, so that they can sue the owners...and then the owners will not be able to collect the TV revenue that they would still be paid if their is no football...
That is the players saying ya wanna play dirty...lol
The courts will decide this one...

A good article to read below for anyone interested.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- If the National Football League could throw a penalty flag at the players union, it would be for political interference.
The NFL Players Association has turned to Congress for help in preventing an owners lockout of players next season. The union has drafted letters for lawmakers to send to the league and held a briefing for members of Congress and their aides on the economic impact of a labor dispute, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.
The union's adversary on Capitol Hill, NFL lobbyist Jeff Miller, argued that Congress isn't in a position to resolve the dispute and that trying to pull lawmakers into it is out of bounds.

Like we need the government engaged in this too...everything else is going so well. Recall the Baseball hearings on PEDs.

I don't think it will go that far. Both sides know that they lose in this if play is disrupted.

They are too far apart, some form of arbitration or legal ruling will be needed, unless one side just lays down.
