NCAAF  > Ohio State Buckeyes  > Not Complaining...Who Knows the Rule About Taunting After a Score?
November 28, 2010, 12:10 PM
The Buckeyes were penalized a few times for unsportsmanlike conduct after a score for making the "Block O" by touching the tips of their thumbs and index fingers together with the specially designed gloves they were wearing.

I was just curious how that new rule actually reads. I know there are several people here who can point me towards the right section of the rulebook.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think the penalties were for caving in to Nike :)

Pure judgement call. Saw Fairly get flagged for stomping around and yelling after sacking McElroy...and then a few minutes later McElroy was running around and jumping and pointing at the stands and got nothing....

Sorry I can't help, but I think it is a silly rule if there aren't any guidelines...

Agreed.

Still curious as to what parameters are specified in the rule governing the discretion of the refs for this new rule.

Also, given that the rule is a reaction to the perception of an unacceptable decline in sportmanship among today's college athletes (whole seperate issue...I disagree...deal with it another time), what type of advance "coaching" are the refs receiving with respect to enforcing this rule.

Even as children, we all knew the difference between acceptable celebration and taunting. Why has it gotten so complicated for grown men to officiate to that universal understanding?

There must be some bad mojo in those striped shirts. They put them on and vast numbers of neurons just cease firing in their brains.

This is your brain...

This is your brain wearing zebra stripes...

Still wasn't as bad as the holding call on Dane Sanzenbacher. Boom Herron runs for a 98 yard TD and they brought it back to the 9 yard line, calling Dane with holding, when he not only DID NOT hold, but actually had his face masked grabbed and held unto, by the defender.
I agree with you though, that is some pretty lame officiating, not knowing the difference in taunting and a good ol' celebration.
