Are the Browns called the Browns because their uniforms look like crap?
November 29, 2010  12:35 AM ET

They are called the Browns because of the late Paul Brown who was the owner.

Paul owned the Browns?

Yes, and the Bengals.

Actually, no. Paul Brown was the namesake of, but did not own, the Browns. The owner was Arthur McBride. He Who Shall Remain a Fecal Stain Forever and Shall Bathe In Hellfire For All Eternity bought the Browns in 1961 and proceeded, in the first of a string of incomprehensible moves, fired Paul Brown in 1963. Paul Brown did own the Bungholes.

Errr, proceeded TO FIRE...

Paul Brown bought the Bengals into the NFL for a cheese pizza.

*Joke in reference to the two 'we need to trade (player X) for a cheese pizza" threads. Poster does not actually believe Paul used a cheese pizza to get the Bengals into the league. I'm Bloodrayne and I approved this message.

ROTFLMAO!

Most likely the "Browns" were named for Coach Brown, however, some believe the Browns were named for boxing champ Joe Louis, the Brown Bomber. I believe little evidence to support one theory over the other.

Full Throttle: google, bing, etc. if you really want to research the Browns; if you just want to look like an .****. please continue on your current path.

Well whatever the reason, the current owners need to see if they can change the name. Brown= lackluster color= poor city image. They need a more colorful name that would change the way people perceive Cleveland. What is the most outstanding feature or attribute about Cleveland?

Only an outsider would make a comment like this. WE DON'T CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT OUR TEAM COLORS. We support our team and are proud of the rich history which Paul Brown brought to this franchise. And I would take our colors any day over a team who replaced the Browns...purple and black? Seriously?
