NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Thoughts and reflections of the Bears/Eagles game and seasons.

Well, well, well, I guess Chicago has a NFL team after all. Considering the Blackhawks CHAMPIONSHIP and the recent revival of Bulls superiority (AWESOME NEVER QUIT TEAMWORK.), the Bears are just doing what Chicagoans and Chicago fans deserve!!! I HATE it when a COACH decides to play prevent Defense and Offense to run out the clock, and lets the other team back into the game. Then you get stupid remarks from the opponents that were TOTALLY dominated that say; "We only lost by 5 points... Duh... We (The Eagles.) are the better team." !!!??? Really now!!! Is there some kind of an NFL conspiracy to make the games closer just to keep up fan interest? The Bears should start Knox and Bennet at WR. I wasn't a Bennet fan untill he broke 300 tackles on his 1,000 yard pass reception/run after the catch. (Slightly exaggerated I know.) But that run was proof enough to me that he deserves the starting job. Bring Hester in after he's had a chance to rest some after the Kick/Punt return as the 3rd wr but Bennet is a possession type of wr who can't outrun the sun but can advance the ball with his savy running and some broken tackles. Does anyone want to give Greg Olsen credit for arriving as a superior NFL TE? I think his TD catch/steal of the ball proved that! I think we have our starting 3 recievers in the afformentioned 3 men but perhaps to me their best quality is that none of them play dropsey with the ball!!! None of these oops better luck next play type of expletive deleted's. Our D line is the best we have had since the 85 Bears. Period!!! Our front 7 on D are DEFINATELY the best in the NFL. Our corners are respectable and our Safety play is getting better every week. I can't wait untill Jay wins just one more game this season to shut up the Jay haters who say he has never had a winning season. Cutler was superb, the QB that we traded for. Our running game was good but could have been better especially in the 4th quarter. (Whew, I have to take a breath here and pause. Everything up to now was sooo... positive.) Our O line gave up 4 sacks. There were too many QB hurries, but they over all were adequate. However that isn't good enough for what we what to win. (The Super Bowl) Look at the Giants/Patriots superbowl of a few years ago and remember that could happen to us if we go against a superior D line in the playoffs. Oh yea, that has happened to us when we played the Giants earlier this year remember??? I don't want to remember that score or game!!! We still need much improvement there but Tice's coaching up during the game made them start playing like Bears should, and they did a better job as the game went on. We have room for improvement but we still have 5 games to go to get to the playoffs, thus we should be better when we get there. What are your points or thoughts of the Eagles/Bears Game??? Go BEARS!!!

Congrats bearsfan, GSH1, Bgduece, and other Bears fans! I enjoyed watching that game. The only thing is, some of you have been calling for Lovie and Jerry's heads, and they may be staying now?

Anyway, it was a very good game, and although Philly did make a comeback, they aren't a slouch team by any means. They are professionals as well, ya know. So, to win against a hot team like they've been, the Bears did very well. Congrats again!

Thanks Bull, this was the signature game of Jay Cutler's career...

That is so true BGDUECE. Thankyou Bull. I still want Lovie's and JA's jobs though. It's the three ex head coaches that came in last year and this that have saved Lovie's job. I just absolutely hate this extension talk. I hope for JA it's too late. A 1/3 hit rate for who he drafts is abysmal any way you look at it. I hate to remind anyone but I picked Philly to win even if I vastly enjoy this result more.

Bears looked really good. They took Vick out of the game...things look good for the playoffs. The down side is that Chicago is stuck with Lovie for another year or two. But it is a nice position to be in. Good luck Chicago...I hope things work out.

Agreed, the success of the coordinators and position coaches help salve but do not mask the poor decision making of Lovie Smith...every time I see an opposing team rack up yards and points when Lovie orders the prevent (the win) defense and has CBs playing 10 yards off of recievers and Safties lining up like they're expecting a hail mary...I want to vomit. As far as Ted and Jerry go, they NEED to go, along with the rest of the scouting staff...they are poor identifiers of talent and draft substandard players far higher than their draft positions should be by any rational measure. Matt Forte and Devin Hester are the only truly quality players that they drafted in the last 5 years that I can think of. Not to mention the fact that they get hung up on giving chances to players who prove that they do not deserve it to try hopelessly to prove themselves (Ted Jerry and Lovie)right. (see Mark Anderson and Tommie Harris)

Old #4 I'd gladly trade Lovie for Mike Singletary or most of the other coaches in the NFL. Lovie hasn't made this teams record the players and assistant coaches have. Lovie and JA are just reaping the rewards of these other people who are qualified for their jobs and do a good job. Read Chigagoian forever's post. The man knows exactly what is what about Lovie. Lovie has never had a winning team when he had all his buddies who he said "they just need a chance to be winners." Those bums were incompetent and ignorant of what the game of football is all about. In 2006 he had Rivera running the defense who took them to the Superbowl. Lovie didn't like Ron and his ways so he fired him. Plus Rivera was getting good publicity that Lovie was jealous of. Now it's just Lovie's good luck to have a winner again which is going to save his job. I would still fire Lovie and JA and keep the Assistant coaches we have with either bringing in a man who can get along with them or promote Dave Taub to do so. Let Lovie prove his abilites next year as a "lame duck coach" before I give him an extension. (A Lame duck coach is a coach with no years left on his contract.) As far as GM I'm not qualified to name someone. Ask GSH1 and others that question, they know much more about that job and people than I do.

Mike Singledummy? He's a lot worse than Lovie, and that's saying something. Full of fire and passion, but he's just not very smart. Buddy Ryan's nickname for him was 'stupid', remember ...

As long as Toub, Maranelli and MArtz are here, we'll be fine. But Angelo *must* go.

This Bears team will always be limited by that O-line. The receivers are getting into more of a groove with Cutler, but Omiyale is Omiyale and Webb is Webb and Chris Williams is Chris Williams. Yes, they'll play better together with time, but their talent ceiling is quite low. Webb is a 7th round draft pick whichever way you slice it. Big, slow and apparently no talent. Omelette is Omelette. Angelo ignored the line in drafts and when he did spend a first round pick on a lineman he fluffed it. Still, as long as Cutler can run ... we have a chance.

How smart is/was Ditka according to Buddy Ryan? How sucessful was Buddy? You are so right in saying that this team is limited by it's OL. In other words as goes this OL so goes this team. IE we are riding on the OL's shoulders and whatever they give Jay and Co. (time and holes) decides on how sucessfull the 2010 Bears will be.

I'm sure I dislike Lovie more than he deserves, but not much. Replace him with Singletary? Yes I would but I'm honestly anti-Lovie. He is an egomaniac who doesn't stand up and take the blame that he should. I'm from the Harry Truman era. the buck stops here!! But Lovie is so set in his ways and refuses to admit he is ever wrong. Like for example, the 10 yards off stuff, on 3rd and 2 or 3 etc. Then he refused for 6 or so seasons to put our best corner on the opponents best wr. It wasn't untill last year that that was changed. I think in no small part to Marinelli's talking to Lovie. Two quick and easy examples. Yes, I want to keep the new 3 men and Taub. Thus we are probably going to keep Lovie. And I can't think of anything I would enjoy less. What is going to happen when the new 3 men get offers to move on and do? Then Lovie once again gets some worthless buddies of his that can't coach and our team is worthless again. Welcome to MY NIGHTMARE!!! Haven't we just gone through this??? Why do we have to prove how worthless Lovie is all over again? So I root for the Bears on gameday and hate Lovie the other 6. lol Go Bears!!!

Si just released it's top 10 linemen in the 2011 draft. Does anyone think we might get one or two considering where we have drafted linemen in the last recent years?
