Or in real speak - Fresno St. 25, Illinois 23
BTW, the same Illinois that everyone is saying is deceptively better than they look.

I'll give Mr. Gee a break after this last post :), but it is kind of fun to shove some FACTS down a university president's throat.

this result is not FACTS, but is just an incomplete set of data. what actually happens on the field is not as important as what we know would happen if the teams met 10 times on a neutral field.

My favorite quote from Gee was I think in '92 or '93 when the Buckeyes tied TSUN. "That is the best win in school history" Overall, Gee is a joke when he tries to talk about sport!

Spoken like a fan of the losing side.

The result on the field most definitely is the FACT of the matter. That independent result is all we have to go on. We can't *know* what would happen if the teams met 10 times on a neutral field because it hasn't happened yet. And it won't happen.

I will never understand the irrational comfort brought on by denial such as this.

Hope the bowls allow for some decent games btwn the BCS and non-BCS squads. The Rose may be the most brutal trench slugfest of the bowl season.

That would be 2 years in a row for Fresno over Illinois after losing 51-0 to Boise (2 weeks ago), and Illinois having an extra week to prepare. Gee is an idiot

I think that we have been watching a different universe of college football if you believe that a non-AQ team beating a team from an AQ conference is EVER the fact of the matter. If the Fresno States of the world ever manage to have more points on the scoreboard when the final buzzer sounds against an Illinois, it is because of a) injuries b) inclement weather (inclement meaning whichever weather conditions might be thought to favor the non-AQ team) c) poor officiating d) lack of motivation f) the AQ conference team played down to the level of the competition g) horrendous luck h) an act of God i) because an officious person from an AQ conference says so j) any combination of a-j

What it is never, ever, EVER is because the Fresno States are a better team. We all know that teams like that would lose at least 2 games if they had to play the schedule of an AQ conference team.

Of course, on the other hand, when an AQ conference team beats a non-AQ team on the field, that IS the fact of the matter.

This is just bait, right? Fresno has beaten Illinois two years in a row. Home and away. Fresno is the better team. Boise State beat ACC champion Virginia Tech. That makes Boise the better team. Same with Oregon State. Oh yeah, TCU beat them too. Weather, bad officiating and injuries are part of the game, and good teams overcome those things and win anyway.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

a) injuries
b) inclement weather
c) poor officiating
d) lack of motivation
e) this excuse intentionally left blank
f) the AQ conference team played down to the level of the competition
g) horrendous luck
h) an act of God

Thanks for the handy list. Any guesses on which ones Wisconsin will use?

For a game played in Pasadena b) seems like a stretch. Playing in the Rose Bowl rules out d).

So if I'm Wisconsin, I'd be working up some quality c), f) and g) excuses over the next month.

That makes Boise the better team.

Have you not learned yet that only teams from The Six can truly be better teams (and thus are the only worthy teams of playing to be the best team?) Even if a Boise or Fresno wins a game against a team from The Six (or goes on a five game winning streak,) that does not mean they are a better team. Maybe they played a better game or two (or five,) but more likely the better team (from The Six) just had no motivation to play their best. And who can really blame them against such obviously inferior opposition?

TCU is not a better team than Oregon State. Just like Utah was not better than Alabama in 2008. Unless, of course, they win a game against those teams after 2012.

Ah! Sorry, I needed to recalibrate my sarcasm detector. All is well now.

You would think playing in the Rose Bowl would rule out d, but then I (and all the Badgers, Big Ten Fans and fans of The Six) would have to remind you of the 2009 Sugar Bowl.

d is always a good reason that a better team might appear to be a lesser team for one game. I personally never played in a bowl game so I don't know, but I can imagine that it is a huge downer to be forced to play against what is essentially a second or third team from a member of The Six. Enough of a downer that you would lose by two or more touchdowns apparently.

So I would predict d and b (the weather in Pasadena obviously favors TCU if they win. It's much too warm for Wisconsonites to play their best in Pasadena in January) with some g and e thrown in. E being, "the California cheese put us off our 'A' game."

If I thought TCU had any chance. Which I don't. Because Wisconson is the better team.

That's quite a list of excuses. Here's the real fact of the matter: Fresno State is a better football team than Illinois. Period end of story.
