NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > Roethlisberger's One of A Kind......
December 6, 2010, 12:47 AM
Wow! Steelers-Ravens game just finished and my post-game reflections are dominated by how fearlessly Ben Roethlisberger stood tall against a ferocious Ravens D blitz all night long. The very first offensive series, he gets clubbed in the facemask by Ngata? ( a Ravens DLman anyway) apparently breaking his freakin' nose! FYI...NO PENALTY CALLED, by the way.

All night long, it was painfully apparent that Ben could not plant with his R foot, as it was wrapped up in a shoe probably 2-3 sizes too big. His passes were more shot puts, than the usually perfect spirals he throws. He overthrew probably 25% of his passes, often to apparently wide open receivers. But he completed just enough, and when it mattered, to get the job done.

Ben didn't win this game all by himself, not by a long shot...The Steelers D came up BIG TIME ( FINALLY ) in the 4th QTR, with Polamalu strip-sacking Flacco on a critical Ravens drive, that resulted in the go-ahead TD. Props to Issac "RED ZONE" Redman for a heady, clearly un-rookie-like adjustment that allowed Ben to connect with him for that catch-and-run TD, breaking 2-3 tackles along the way.

Finally, I have to say that the BEST play of the game, didn't result in a score or a change of possession. It didn't really change anything obviously. But it showed WHY Roethlisberger is unlike any other NFL QB......on the game-winning TD drive, just a play before the TD toss, I believe, Terrell Suggs makes an inside/outside move on the L tackle and blows in for what looked to be a HUGE SACK on Ben. Despite getting an arm to the side of his helmet ( AGAIN ), Roethlisberger wrestles away from Suggs, gets outside the pocket, and back-flips he ball out-of-bounds, preserving the good field position, and avoiding a possible TO... REMEMBER, he's got a broken nose and either a broken or badly sprained R foot (depending on who you listen to )!!!!!!!

I can't think of another QB: Not Manning, Not Brady, Not Brees, Not Favre, NOT ANYBODY.....that could have done what Roethlisberger did, and has done throughout hs career........IMHO

There's no doubt that Ben is one tough SOB and that he is able to do things other QBs can only dream about.

Thats how Steelers have always been. Tough, rugged, and winners! No surprise, and agreed, no other QB out there could have nor would have gone on. But, thats who we are, Iron Men!

He's the reason we won our last SB. He's just so hard to bring down. He all but dares you to blitz him because every DC knows he'll hold the ball way to long.

hahahaha!!!BGII,Yep,His nose was"dislocated"a tad,but Ya can move the cartledge back ifn ya can stand the pain, ifn His nose was badly broken"He'd gushed crimson like a faulty Fawcet,And that would have been worse.

Yes Ben has more lives than Fritz the Cat. I thought the policy for all sports except boxing and wrestling was that when a player had an open wound that they must leave the game until the wound was sealed with a bandage.

As I recall, he did. He got the broken nose on third down, we didn't pick up the first and Ben came over to the sideline.
