7 Years for a pitcher?

Besides the money being crazy, 7 years for a pitcher (whose arm could go at any tme) borders on lunacy.

The sport is pricing itself out of the reach of most ordinary people.

I think the Rangers are playing it right. Lee is a good pitcher, but not a fantastic pitcher. Ryan knows what he is doing. Let the Yankees pay him outrageous ace money for a number 3 pitcher, who has not been all that consistent. Let's see where that gets them 4 years from now with 3 years left on his contract.

I agree with all of you. Seven years for a pitcher is obscene. The Mets started the long term deals with Santana - was it worth it? CC's contract made more sense because he was 28 when he signed. But to pay that much for a 32 year old pitcher? Well it's not my money.

He;s 32 now, 3 yr deal is all he deserves. Of course good sense & logic will not prevail.

The outrageous deals started with Mike Hampton. Throw Barry Zito into the mix. The fans are really gonna get screwed by escalating price. Baseball players struck years ago. It is time for fans to strike as they are the ones who will have to pay in the form of ever increasing salaries for this insanity. The owners see what happened to these players & yet they are like zombies following these guys around. I expected Santana to break down in the later stages of the contract but not barely 1/2 way thru.

7 years is just fine. He's a work horse on the mound. He'll probably still be pitching into his 40's.
