More Sports  > The Bottom 10  > ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO RID FANNATION FROM THE SPAM?

At first is was slightly anoying. Now it is completely out of hand.

It seems painfully obvious that the mods have no way of controlling the problem.

I remember when i first came on the sight, an unnamed member would post the adress and phone number of members that got under his/her skin. How they where able to get the information is beyond my pay scale. Perhaps a flood of late night phone calls to the spamers would keep them off the sight.

My only other thought would be to have each member send a couple dozen E-mails to the web site that is being forced down or throats every single day. If fannation picks one day to have all its members E-mail the unwanted sights, it just might show that we will not sit back and let them ruin OUR sight.

I know i wouldn't want to click on my E-mail and have 2,500 messages to go through.

Any other ideas that might help curve the problem would be great to hear.

They need to put in a filter. They can do this. Everyon one of these spam-nation sites has a web address, or URL. So, filter out any thread with a URL in it, and don't even put it up. They can Nanny-filter out "naughty" words, so they're already 3/4 of the way there.

Of course, this has been suggested numerous times. There seems to be little interest at SI in doing this. For one thing, it would reduce the need for moderators, and that's not going to sit well with those who make a living from looking around every few hours and trashing some Spam posts.

It would also help to have a waiting period, maybe 24 hours, maybe 72, whatever, between joining and being eligible to post. These accounts all get deleted, so they're brand new accounts every day. When a new member joins, he/she/it should be sent an e-mail. Then they have to go to a specified site to activate their account. As I recall, the accounts on this site are all sign-up-and-start-posting, which makes it way to easy for these clowns.

I'm also guessing that every "spam" post counts as much towards SI's revenue as any other post.
