Cam Newton is stripped of that Heisman?

It's such a shame because he is a great player. And the rest of those kids don't deserve to lose their season. But because of the selfish acts of Cam's daddy.....they might.

Over/under has gotta be four months, if only so the draftniks can make an issue of it during the draft coverage.

I'll take the over on 4 months, just based on the Bush timeline.

I hope it doesn't happen. If it does the NCAA should reconsider it's 'amatuer' status. Because of something that allegedly happened off the field it has taken away from what Auburn has accomplished on the field. Which without this would have been a great story.

Is this what the NCAA really wants?

As much as we bash them, the NCAA does want to maintain some vestige that the athletes are not paid outright for their services. Doing this burnishes that.

From what I've heard and read, correct me if I'm wrong, is that the NCAA wants to maintan it's amatuer status so that it can avoid paying taxes.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,,, helps to make the seasons bright,, and so I'm offering this simple phrase,, to folks and neighbors too,, "MONEY!!!,, its a hit,, share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie". "Us,,,,,,, and,,,,,,,,,,,, Them".

Intersting article in the Times-Herald from May 27, 2010.

The Times-Herald covers Coweta County (GA) and it's largest city - Newnan (home of the, now, infamous Holy Zion Center of Deliverance)

Paragraph 8 states,
The Bishop reassured the city that he is in the midst of securing financing to fulfill the city's demands.

I am fairly conflicted about this entire aspect of the college football landscape. Mostly, I stow the dirtly laundry in some corner of my head and try to enjoy the college football world for what it is. In my somewhat jaded view of things, I believe most or for sure many high quality athletes have some dirt going on. It is hard to catch without a third party blowing the whistle and even then it is hard to prove. For these reasons, I wince whenever new charges of agents or parents or alumni come up because it detracts from my enjoyment of the game if I let it. I don't come down on players or institutions, but mostly just try to ignore it. I was not one who said one word against USC in their dealings with the NCAA. I enjoyed watching USC while Bush was there.

Since some of the crackdowns in the 80's I think all of the major institutions are doing what they can in the way of institutional control. As far as I can see, that's about all the NCAA can hope for because human nature has greed as part of it( you dont have to like it but its true) and these things will happen in various degrees at about any institution in this land. If you think your institution is squeaky clean, you are probably not.

Do I believe there are limits and controls that should be enforced? Absolutely! But I am not going to worry about them. I will enjoy college football and forget about the seedy underside of getting and keeping talent.

Why you gotta go saying "it's such a shame", when you were so quick and constant to condemn Bush and USC? Try to play fair, will ya?

Because it isn't CAM who did anything wrong. Reggie knowingly did what he did.

And also, I was referring to the other kids on the team as well, if you had read it all the way through. That's why.

December 12, 2010  10:23 AM ET

Oh, and nerb: Because USC KNEW what it was doing and kept it's mouth shut. I don't feel bad for that school at all. We don't exactly know what the schools involved here know yet, do we? I am basing what I said on the facts we know now. Reggie Bush's situation is like comparing apples and oranges.

As I understand it, Cam's dad plays a large role in Cam's decisionmaking process. The investigation is not concluded. Unfortunately, the likelihood that Cam knew something about the situation is not remote. Sad situation because he clearly is the best CFB player.

Oh, I agree that Cam could have known something. Just yesterday I was talking to someone who knew full well that a college offered her son a new car to play for them. She told him no. And the college no.
Cam has said time and time again his father plays a big role in his decision making process. That doesn't mean that Cam knew his dad was doing dirty deeds behind the scene. He may never have told him that, to protect him. We don't know that.
Difference with Reggie Bush is that it went on for years, many people knew (how else did it leak out), and they made no apologies for it. And it was REGGIE also receiving benefits. With Cam we are talking about his dad possibly taking money. Not necessarily Cam doing anything at all. His father is the one doing it. That makes is senseless to me, and selfish of the father. Cam may have been told and told his father he can't do that, for all we know.

Now. That being said. Was a rule still broken? Yes. Should Cam be ineligible? Yes.

Now that is sad. The other thing that is sad is the NCAA generally cannot come up with punishment that impact the malefeasor only. They take wins and scholarships away affecting players that have nothing to do with the problem.
