NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > So what choice did Choice have in asking for Vick's autograph?
December 13, 2010, 07:09 PM
As a Cowboy fan I was totally indifferent to him asking for the autograph.

Players and Coaches meet on the field after the game and shake hands, congratulate, and some even form a circle on the field to pray.

Choice is from Georgia and may have seen Vick play at Atlanta for years. They both play offense so don't actually meet on the field of play. I would think it weird if Jenkins asked Desean Jackson for an autograph for example.

I thought I'd ask my 17 year old son what he thought about the autograph, his first reaction was "so what's weird?" I told him about the game, he said "players always meet on the field and say good game and congratulate one another (he plays HS level--they teach sportsmanship at that level still), it's no big deal". I described the pen, the glove and how it happened in front of the camera. My son surmised "maybe he has a little brother or a cousin who would like the autograph for Christmas?" AND THERE IT IS, why wouldn't Choice get an autograph for his cousin or brother who lives in Georgia? Nothing wrong with that. Maybe it is that simple.

I am surprised this is such a big deal.

Is anyone bothered by this besides the press?

It's not deal at all. Let the guy be.

I'm not bothered by it at all. But, you can bet your bippy someone will be, somewhere.

From what I've read, players trade memorabilia pretty often, don't see why THIS is such a big deal...

In this case, people are thinking that Choice is being a "traitor" because he asked for Vick's autograph with Vick being a member of the "enemy". They take this kind of thing too personal when it's really none of their business what these players do on their off time, or before/after a game.

Because it's Vick ..that's all!

Just read an article here on SI and it turns out Choice wanted the autograph for his nephew. Choice went on to apologize on twitter et al.....

this is no big deal...now back to ravens/texans

Absolutely no big deal. Just the press trying to make a story, where's the quality control for these so called reporters? Who do they answer to?

You can't always rely on someone else doing it for you, like somebody suggested Choice do.
The Eagles board a plane and fly back to Philly, and don't see the Cowboys again till after Christmas. Choice struck while the iron was hot, and got his nephew an autograph. That was a noble act Choice made for his nephew...kids who are involved in sports, cherish sports memorabilia and dream about one day being on the field themselves.

Too bad for this kid....he already knows what he is getting from Santa (his uncle) because of idiot reporters with no stories of value.

Actually, I asked if Choice would get the autograph. I'm gonna hold a silent auction. Then Choice and I are going to split the profits and go to Vegas! Then we will bet on the Eagles in the Playoffs, and split Those profits with Vick. And we'll all meet back here next year for Space Balls 2: The Search for More Money.

No problem whatsoever with the autograph; the media would rather have seen some lame trash-talking or a fight.

That's the world we live in....take the good out of a thoughtful innocent act, and spin it into something bad.
I wonder if that works in reverse???
How about if Choice walked up to Vick, and instead of requesting an autograph for his nephew to put under the Christmas tree....Choice kicked Vick in the balls. (ballz, nutz)
Would the reporter spin the story to say "Choice was told Vick was actually an alien by his teammates...and did not have testicles" so for the good of mankind Choice was trying to uncover the truth.
What do you guys think?

I want to believe.

i think the fact that dallas lost the game - from the press stand point - makes it look worse. these guys are all professionals basically on the same level. certainly there are more "looked-up-to" players, but they are all paid to play the game and equals. if dallas had won the game then it may have gotten less press. but when you lose the game and then have players from losing team approach players from winning team asking for autographs.... the press is going to expand/blow this up as big as they can. not saying it's right or wrong here.... no judgement here.

I saw something on Sunday that I don't recall seeing before. When the teams were lined up for the first play from scrimmage, Ike Taylor and Chad Johnson (yeah, yeah) reached across the line to bump fists or shake or whatever. I was half expecting a flag. It serves as a reminder that most of these athletes have things in perspective--way more so than a lot of us fans.

Funny about expecting the flag...."encroachment"! That is what the league has come to in some cases.
