Gotta say, as much as I dislike Philly, this cracks me up.

What a staff the Phillies are going to have

This came out of left field so to speak

The Mets still have Ollie so no reason to sweat right - nudge nudge wink wink

Well, it's over. Boston wins the East and then beats the Yankees in the last round of the playoffs.
The Dodgers under Mattingly win the West but then lose to the Phillies in the playoffs.

the Phillies take Boston in 6. The Mets finish in last place. Also the Phillies win the East by 9 games over Atlanta; no contest.

Having Charlie Manuel as manager, Ruben Amaro Jr. as GM, and a nice & talented bunch of non-egotistical players with whom he was already familiar and liked all probably helped. Besides, is there really a difference between $100 Million and $150 Million or whatever the numbers are?? Once you get above a few million, unless you're going to give the money away to good causes, I don't think additional millions actually makes someone happier except in an egotistical way that will ultimately lead to unhappiness... How many Lear Jets and butlers do you need??

Non-egotistical players? Yeah, ok...

Let's not get too sore patting your team's back...

AS A HUGE BASEBALL FAN I can't help but think the game has gone truly mad (or maybe it's just the off-season). Why should the Yankees be concerned that they did not invest $160 mil in a pitcher that was 26-24 the past two seasons? A pitcher who smartly chose to pitch in the National League. Why should the Red Sox be excited that they have replaced Beltre and Martinez with Gonzalez and Crawford? Sure the Red Sox will be better without all the injuries of last year. But couldn't the Yankees also be better with an average season from Teixiera and Burnett? At the end of the day isn't all this excitement premature? Isn't all that matters what is done on the field beginning in 4 months?

One thing you have to realize is that Lee started the past 2 years on bad teams (Cleveland and Seattle) but still had good numbers which turned into great numbers with Philly and Texas. Let him pitch a full season with a good team and your talking 17 - 22 wins next year.

don't worry, there are still some people who judge pitchers by wins and losses...they can't be convinced otherwise...
