Is he the worst matchmaker in mma?
December 17, 2010  02:58 PM ET

Is he the match maker in SF? I wasn't sure if he does the matchmaking there. Not all his fights are terrible but definitely the HW fights are. I feel like they do a good job with the talent they have.

He's not the matchmaker.

That having been said, Strikeforce currently has a better Heavyweight division than the UFC. Virtually, that is... because they don't fight each other, nothing happens.

Hahaha.

Exactly. Fedor and Overeem won't fight. What a joke.

its terrible. i love mma no matter what, but SF needs to step up their game. People are blasting the contracts and stuff like that of UFC, but at least he gets his fighters to fight. i am an overem fan, but comon...now there are rumors he may fight in dynamite against Bobby Lashley..really?? SF needs to have more control of their fighters and make some fights

Actually, Overeem should fight Werdum, if things are taken seriously. Because that's who deserves the title shot.

And give Fedor either Josh Barnett or Bigfoot, for example.

Bear in mind that he doesn't have an exclusive contract with Strikeforce

That last card was very entertaining.

Definitely. But probably more for die hard fans than anything else.

Because it lacked some star power.

Yeah but predictable. I had every fight on the main card picked right except I had Big Foot by decision. And the HW in SF are nowhere near as good as the UFC's.
Cain>Overeem
Brock>Big Foot
JDS>Fedor
Cain, Brock, JDS, Carwin, Roy Nelson, and many more>Werdum

In terms of talent (and I am not considering whether they actually fight themselves or not) Strikeforce has a better overall HW division than the UFC right now.

But if you actually believe Roy Nelson is a better fighter than Werdum (Roy was actually KOed by Arlovski, who's on the SF roster) then it's plain to see you look at marketing.

I think it had some great fighters on there. Hendo, Lawler, Sobral, Daley, Big Foot is pretty good. They need to just sell to the UFC so we could have a true MMA champion, in the USA. Their roster at SF isn't very deep at all. They can only put on 2-3 good cards a year.

Cain is better (?) than Overeem but Overeem has just won the most prestigious striking tournament in the world. So it's not like there's an easy answer here.

Brock and Bigfoot. At the end of the day Brock is a big guy with a 5-2 record, at age 33. Not that Bigfoot is a huge star, but at age 31, he's 15-2, having beaten two former UFC HW champs.

JDS: let's wait and see his ground game first, shall we? I bet it's good, by training with the Black House, but let's wait.

Carwin: no cardio, old.

Roy Nelson: completely average fighter. He actually won a TUF competition where the level of talent was non-existent. This man has lost to Ben Rothwell, let's be serious here.

Hendo and Babalu are aging fighters. To have them headline a card is not exactly a good sign.

There will never be a single big MMA organization in the USA (or anywhere, for that matter).

JDS destroyed Werdum and Roy took JDS to a decision while eating serious shots. If AA fights Roy again I guarantee Roy wins by 1st RD KO. And I am a big fan of MMA not a casual one I can care less about the marketing.

Roy Nelson was never better than Arlovski.

If you play that JDS beat Werdum and JDS wasn't able to KO Roy, then Roy > Werdum, it's the kind of logic that never applies to MMA.

Example:

JDS lost to Mamute. Mamute lost to Sokoudjou. Sokoudjou lost to Houston Alexander. Then, by your "logic", that means Houston Alexander is better than JDS.

See, completely flawed.

And it's not like Roy Nelson had a great fight against JDS. He just had a great chin.

That must mean Cabbage is a top Heavyweight, then...

whoa!
cain better then overeem? aside from the K1 mention from Hyped, how about experience here.

Brock better then big foot? Silva is a mixxed martial artist. Brock is a wrestler, only attribute being his stupid strength.

JDS better than Fedor?? Comon dude, how long are you watching mma? again experience.

December 17, 2010  04:43 PM ET

Fedor has beaten guys who have beaten Werdum, and has now lost to Werdum, blah blah blah.

I would actually bet money on Overeem KOing any Heavyweight in the UFC right now... if he can consistently pass steroids tests.

December 17, 2010  04:44 PM ET

Brock also beat 2 former UFC HW and finished both of them. Not UD. Carwin wouldn't need cardio against Werdum he would just KO him in the 1st. And the Overeem comment about winning the striking tournament, come on. It's MMA not kickboxing. That's like saying Thales Leites won some grappling tournaments. How's he doing in major fight promotions now a days?
