NBA  > General NBA  > With this Noah injury what can the Bulls do to keep their playoff hopes alive?
December 19, 2010, 10:23 AM
Noah's out for 10 weeks. Taj has just had a concussion and the rest of our bench was atrocious, and now the LOWLY LA Clippers beat us in our house? Is there anyone that we can get to help out? Will this ruin our chances of getting us a primo scoring guard to go along with Derrick with our 2 draft choices at the end of the trading period as they have said? Will we have to burn them now just to keep our playoff hopes alive? Will they have to do something and if so what? Or is it better luck next year like the Cubbies for the last 100 years??? I'm a football guy (Bears fan) who is also Bulls fan and I don't know the NBA players worth didly. I'll be honest about it. I love the Bulls, but I'm no NBA expert in any shape, way, or form. So I'm asking all you NBA fans who do know, just what can be done, or am I panicing unnecissarily?

Not a Bulls fan but I think Boozer coming back will keep you in the hunt...

Candidly, they have a mountain to climb WITH him in the game...because between Boston and Miami already at the top (keep in mind Miami gets Miller back this week and Haslem before seasons end) and Orlando making their deals, its a much tougher East.

But, I think your boys will be just fine...they are a 5th-7th seed.

December 20, 2010  01:24 PM ET

That's just it a 5th to 7th seed or worse. With Noah,Boozer and Rose in the lineup we were playing like a top 4 team or better. Especially if we could get a scoring 2 guard who could make a difference just before the trade deadline or preferably earlier. (Oh, where's a Steve Kerr, BJ Armstrong, and a John Paxson type, when we need them.) This just kills me seeing the way it's cutting our heart out. And that's exactly what Jokeem is, is our heart. With Taj coming off the bench we were dynamite for those few games. Anyone who doesn't realize what he and they are capable of are in for a huge suprise in the playoffs. This team is on the verge of giving ANYONE a run for their money in the East. Please, continue to doubt you doubters, we LOVE being underestimated.

December 21, 2010  09:26 AM ET

Nah, I don't doubt them, just haven't seen all the pieces together long enough to judge...

Same for Miami, missing Haslem and just got Miller back last night.

Same for Orlando, with Arenas, Richardson and Turkologo now on board.

The East will be tough down the stretch no doubt....

December 21, 2010  12:13 PM ET

I think, Miami has neglected the most important lesson of basketball. Basketball is a height game. They just don't have it when it comes to rebounding. I think this will kill them in the playoffs against Boston, Orlando and Chicago. I agree with you saying they haven't been together long enough to judge but the Bulls were really clicking there for about 6 games with Noah hurt. What are they going to do when he comes back if (Big IF.) they are still in a postition to be in the top 4 spots. I think home playoff advantages are paramount to later victorys.

I saw they're playing Kurt Thomas tonight, not gonna win with that. Trade for Anderson Varejao!

December 21, 2010  11:59 PM ET

I just counted it up that Noah could miss up to 32 games!!! At 10 weeks he could come back on the 24th of Feb against the Heat. I don't know what happened with the game tonight against the 76r's. We were up by as many as 50 points!!! Surely didn't see that coming. We actually out rebounded them! With both Taj and Noah out!!! Someone must have put concrete in the 76r's shoes or flubber in ours. lol Who does Varejao play for?

December 22, 2010  12:01 AM ET

I was soooo hoping for revenge on the Knicks on Christmas day. I figured it to be my Christmas present from the Bulls. lol. Oh well I'll still root for them even if their chances of winning are a lot less now.

December 22, 2010  08:46 AM ET

I just found out how to look up Varejao. (Hey I'm not a computer genius like most of you are!!! They didn't teach classes on computers when I was in school (34years ago!!!) thus I've self taught myself (Badly) most of what I know about these darn machines.) Do you really think the Cavs would let him go? He looks ok to me but he has started all 26 of their games and I don't think the Bulls would want to get rid of too much (Both #1 picks) to get him or anyone else when they need a scoring guard so badly. It might cost them this season but ther'se always next year.

I retract my previous statement, Bulls crushed PHO by almost 50 pts!

Height? Ilgauskas is 7-3...Dampier, his sub is 6-11, Anthony also a sub is 6-10. Bosh is 6-10 and James is 6-9 at Small Forward.

Also, Miami is 6th in the NBA in rebounds per game...which is only 2 boards per game behind the Lakers.

Any team other than Boston or Miami have a hill to climb..because they are going to both clinch home court and Miami by that point will have Haslem and Miller back and all rust knocked off...add in the chemistry that is already improving and I would not want to dance with us come playoff time.

Anyway, it is nice to see such improved play in the East.

December 23, 2010  12:11 AM ET

If the Bulls can be healthy and get a scoring guard at end of trade time they will be willing to see what your Heat are made of. Just look at the Bears this year and see what a little underestimation can do for a team's record. No doubts both teams have things to fix but they are very close. Ask Boston two years ago and Cleveland and Lebron from last year.

December 23, 2010  09:37 AM ET

Nothing, they are just fine. Why would they drop out of playoff contention without Noah?

December 23, 2010  10:30 AM ET

They lost Noah, but gained an almost 20 10 player in Boozer....

December 23, 2010  11:44 AM ET

We had Boozer before we lost Noah. The thing that scares me is counting on his backups. Ashik isn't ready and the other guy is so old that he might not last long enough to finish games. Sure he's doing ok now but they were saving him for the playoffs so he would be fresh. Now that they have to use him he might not have anything left for the playoffs.

December 23, 2010  11:54 AM ET

I just checked the schedule. We get Noah back 7 to 9 weeks before the playoffs, so Thomas should have plenty of time to rest up before we need him in the playoffs. I hope I'm just worrying about nothing. Ps. It's Asik but pronounced a sheik.

December 23, 2010  08:28 PM ET

Well, the easy schedule after his injury should make things bearable for now. I don't see a huge impact on playoffs with him out the line-up, other than seeding.

December 24, 2010  11:56 AM ET

That's just it I think the Bulls can beat the Celtics. The Bulls really gave them all they wanted and more two years ago. We are so much better now than then if we can get a scoring guard especially. Meanwhile the Celtics are older and have what's a free throw Shaq. The Bulls invented Hack a Shaq and expect a repeat of it. So if we are the 4th or 5th seed we get Boston in the 2nd round. Meanwhile the Heat and Majic have to play off. This would tire both of them incredibly. Who ever wins that would be tired out for the Bulls. That would put us in the Eastern Finals against a tired team!! See the methods of my maddness???

December 24, 2010  11:57 AM ET

Yes I'm a thinker and a stinker. lol.

December 26, 2010  03:51 AM ET

After this loss to the Knicks I think my point is made. We can beat the easy teams but can't beat anyone who is any good. Fortunately most of the teams we have to play in the upcoming weeks are weak teams. I still say we desparitely need a shooting guard. Brewer and Boggins just don't cut it. I can't understand one of them though him being the 4th highest scorer of all time at Kentucky and now we can't get didly out of him????

December 26, 2010  10:21 AM ET

Two years ago when we took the Celtics to 7 games it was Noah who was our sparkplug. He fires up this team and is their heart.
