5 games for tat's...looks like you get to see what Braxton Miller do! I am sure the Bowl game will be an inspired game.
Maybe we could rename the divisions to Tat's and Autographs?
This is way-y-y-y worse than unknowingly accepting $180,000 or something like that.

They should have gouged at a player's eye, they'd only have gotten one game, then...

It's stupid on so many levels. However, the worst part about this is the amount involved...when you are the most high-profile player on a high-profile team, why in the world would you risk your eligibility for a couple grand? Screw it, if you're going to be that stupid and screw your team, at least make it worth it for yourself.
LOL, Doc! I miss your sarcasm...
The punishment is more than fair. For a kid that is smart, Pryor makes some pretty dumb moves. And this streak against TSUN has gone to their heads-- you never EVER sell the Gold Pants...

I really hope the university doesn't appeal, forces them to sit out, and whatever happens, happens.
I'm grateful that it doesn't affect the Sugar Bowl-- there were a number of seniors who would have been pretty highly drafted but came back this year. They should not be punished for the arrogance and stupidity of the juniors...

tOSU has already announced they are going to appeal the punishment for being too severe. Based upon recent NCAA investigations, I don't blame the school.
That being said, Kenny Guiton might have to carry the team over Arkansas.

Pryor should have been put in his place 2 years ago. He came in arrogant and cocky and got worse when he could'nt back his mouth up on the field. He is not a great QB and an even worse team leader. The black eye has been put on the program and it will take a long time to get rid of it.
Heck, I understand y'all are upset, but compared to what too many other players, and I especially mean SEC players get caught doing, this is extremely lightweigh stuff, like Doc BFG says. I know it's tough to see when it happens, though.

That's disappointing. I really don't care how the NCAA handled other investigations. I'd like to see the school take more of an "honor and integrity mean something HERE" approach. You know? Hold them up as an example-- more like a "we don't care who you are or how valuable your performance is. No one person is greater than the team" idea...

Come on they do a great job at the fairness game...they should have the players sit out the bowl game. I am sure TP will get his ring for the game declare himself for the NFL and then sell his ring. Was the Tat of an EBAY logo?

+1.
Although in light of what has happened with the Cam Newton fiasco, this seems pretty hard on these guys. It was stupid, but I don't think it deserves the punishment leveled.

Well, I'm happy they get to play in the Sugar Bowl. The fans would be punished more than the players. Except for maybe the NCG, I don't think suspensions should start with a bowl game.
I'm not sure the suspension is that outrageous compared to some from this year. A.J. Greene had to sit out 4 games for selling a jersey. Plus, 3 of those were SEC games whereas only 1 of the 5 games tOSU players have to sit out is a Big 10 game. Maybe they should suspend players for fewer games but make them conference games. It seems to me that sitting out 2 or 3 Big 10 games would be a more severe punishment.

You tell me What NFL team is going to draft him? He is not an NFL QB he is a college QB who can run and he can't even do that lately.
I agree with that. I was just thinking, come out this year and get drafted in the 4th round or miss 5 games next year and get drafted in the 4th round.

The penalties are stiff and it's good they're going to appeal. But Tressel should send a message and at least not have these guys start the Sugar Bowl, just to let them know that he won't stand for embarrassing the program. Heck, he could have them sit out the first quarter and probably still win the game. I'd argue that the lesson is more important than winning the game, but I can understand how most TOSU fans would disagree with me.

How about DC or the Bills. The main issue is TP will think he is smarter than he is.

That's funny - I don't care who you are. The penalty of 4 games is absolutely consistent with the penalty for A.J. Green, who sold a jersey and got caught before this year's season started. The article at cnnsi.com said the players were not suspended from the Sugar Bowl because they had not had the proper education prior to selling the gear. It looks like somebody at Ohio State is using the, "no one ever told them they were amateurs!" defense.
B-i-G, Woody, M.J.D. - I love the importance you guys (and gals) place on your school's rich history and traditions. I agree with your points. However if Cam gets a free pass then the little tat incident at tOSU shouldn't even be newsworthy a week from now.
They changed the penalty to five games because the players did not admit to the violations after they received rules education. You can picture that: the NCAA education representative finishes telling them, "so, boys, in sum, you cannot receive anything discounted, anything free, anything in exchange for autograps. An example of something free..oh, a tattoo or something like that. You can't sell any of your sports memorabilia for money. Everyone understand the rules? (they all nod their heads in unison) Now, do any of you have something you want to tell me?" (they all look up at him with wide eyes and shake their heads slowly) I know how it went because I have those conversations with my three-year-old.
I have to know about these gold pants. Are they full-size, or mounted on trophy stands? Do the players wear them and get a team picture taken after the Game?
