NFL  > General NFL  > Dallas Has Shot @ 2nd Pick In April Draft!!!
December 27, 2010, 02:05 PM
The first three teams to pick in the 2011 draft are Carolina, Denver and the Bengals. There is a scenario that the Cowboys could have the next pick at #4. If the Texans beat the Jaguars they will pick behind Dallas because they'll finish 6-10. If the Lions beat the Vikings at Detriot the Lions finsh at 6-10. If the Niners beat the Cardinals they will finish at 6-10. The Vikings 5-9 and the Cardinals 5-10 can not draft ahead of Dallas because they both beat Dallas. We all know Dallas will lose at Philly without Kitna because hes not as tough as your momma. Sorry to confuse you more but here in a nutshell is what has to happen for Dallas to get the 4th pick in the 2011 draft.....

Houston 5-10 wins over Jacksonville

Detroit 5-10 wins over Minnesota

Niners 5-10 wins over Arizona

If the Texans lose we fall to #5 because we beat Houston. I have heard that the playoff scenario for ties is not the same as the draft order selection tie breakers. But head to head is a draft order tiebreaker. If Detroit loses to Minnesota we fall to #6 because we beat the Lions. If SF loses I don't know the tiebreaker with them? Someone said strength of schedule?
Actually Dallas could be in line for the second or third pick if the Broncos and Bengals win they'd both be 5-11 with Dallas? Again what is the tie breaker? Is it the winning pct. of your opponents? If its that Dallas probably loses out? Yea we are still confused. lol Any input on ties?

Too bad we will still have Jerry Jones making the picks.

December 27, 2010  02:41 PM ET

exactly.... just what i was thinking. who gets to make that pick in the dallas organizatin? if it's JJ and it likely is, then we could be in trouble again!

Dream on.

If Jerry got a top 10, or even a top 5 pick, he'd trade it for one or two 2nd rounders, maybe a 4th, and a 3rd the next year. The operative word in Jerry's vocabulary is VALUE....you'll never see Jerry get a pick in the top ten...never.

The only, and I mean ONLY way he'd do that is if they put a cap on the top draft picks salary. Get your hopes up, and he will shoot you down.

Jerry likes MORE.....trade one pick for 2 or 3 or 4 or 5..........The "Great Minnesota Train Robbery" "ruined" his way of thinking. He thinks he can continue doing that kind of stuff, but Jimmy Johnson pulled that off, and he also picked most of those guys he got for Walker. That will never happen again, but Jones thinks he'll eventually do it........his way.

Not gonna happen in Jerry's lifetime.

Fire Jerry.

He took Roy Williams in like 2002? Man you guys are downers. We could get a top notch player with that pick. We might have Gruden or Cowher for the draft. Jerry lets a coach make picks if hes a big name. He did with JJ and Parcells. We did good with Dez this past draft and Lee might be a solid player as well. Be positive.

Exactly why I don't hang here.

Holy cow, 2011 draft talk already? Hadn't even thought about it. But now that the Chargers and I are kicking back on the couch with y'all watching the playoffs on TV, I guess I can start thinking about it. The Bolts are probably looking at a No. 19 (or so) pick. Hmmm, safety? OLB maybe? New coach? haha.

Your team is going to the big show if they get Cowher or Gruden. I happened to run across their team stats... That team deserves to be like 13-2 right now. They have like over 1300 more offensive yards then their opponents? They just need to take care of the ball and be playing their game in the early season. Turner is out after game 16 for sure. You'll get that elusive SB ring next year. Turner just lacks something.

Jerry would screw up any draft regardless of how high a pick.

Parcells had terrible drafts in 04 and 06 as well. Every bit as bad as some of Jerrys. Want to see em? lol But you Cowboys fans never give him a bad word .

And you do know that Emmitt wasn't the guy Johnson wanted at 17 in 1990? There was a linebacker he wanted (forgot his name) but he went earlier so he took Emmitt. I think the b went to the Bengals? What happened to the guru Johnson in Miami? His team got their butts spanked in two playoff games and he quit? Geez you guys are so down on Jones. Worse then haters for _ _ _st sake.

The linebacker Johnson wanted Bullshirt was James Francis and he went #12 to the Bengals but Jimmy wanted him at 17. After he went Johnson took Emmitt. If Francis falls to 17 in the 90 draft we don't win s_it. And thats the truth too.

We're not "downers", or being negative ATF. Just realistic. We could and we might does NOT make it so. About the time you think Jerry's going to get a certain player, he pulls the rug and trades down. I, among many, knew he was going to draft Steven Jackson, but he traded down and ended up with Julius Jones. Jones is now on his 3rd team.
How many "big names" has he had for coaches? Just Parcells. Johnson was a college coach when he first came to the pros and so was Switzer.
Dez Bryant might not pan out either. He seems to be injury prone. Hope not, but so far he has been. Lee may, but he wasn't a 1st round pick either.

Very possible. I remember he wanted Francis. But, like they say that if "ifs, ands, or buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas"

However, you cannot say for certain that the 'Boys couldn't have won anything without Emmitt. That's something we'll never know. and don't mention the 0-2 start, when he held out. That don't count. If Emmitt had never been drafted by the Cowboys, we'd have never missed him......we'd have had Curvin Richards, or someone else. And Smith may never had ended up as he did if he'd had been with another team.

Jimmy Johnson was in Miami and could do nothing with that team. Why? Because of Dan Marino. He was such an icon and a fixture of that team, that he (Johnson) was not allowed to cut him and get the team younger. He had to play the cards he was dealt until Marino retired, and by that time, Johnson was about ready to move on anyway.

ATF......Far be it for me to ...discourage ? you as a fan, or to make you think of us as not being fans. I've been watching the Cowboys since Meredith was playing, and I'm 55 years old. But, I also know what I see in Jerry Jones. I know that he is NOT as he wants you to think. He reminds me of one of those old time medicine men in those covered wagons who peddled colored water as elixir, a "cure all for what ails ya". He sells a product that is not as he claims. I doubt very seriously he will ever win another SB as long as he conducts business as he does. Don't get your hopes up too high, because it can be a long fall.
You also have the right to support him, much as I have the right to suspect him of thievery. But, we can agree to disagree if you so choose.
