I have been a baseball fan pretty much all my life. A while back, I had a question and have not found a answer as of yet. There's got to be a easy answer too. It is simply, why do umpires wear numbers on them?

One reason maybe,....again maybe, don't know for sure....but, Umpires come in for a set of games..many times for a teams full home stand and they rotate of course from homeplate to first base, etc...so ....MAYBE in the programs the fans get they can track from day to day how they rate the umpires and the calls they make. For one, I can guarantee you most Braves fans know who #29 is....Bill Hohn
