Not very high.
He did have a few crowning achievements, but the only great fighters that he ever beat were Randleman and Vitor, and both are infamous for blowing it in their biggest fights.
Randy is well over rated, so was Tito. He was losing to Alistair Overeem, and had he not kicked Overeem in the groin intentionally I believe he would have been TKO'd.
I think he may have lost to a broken down Wanderlei, and his biggest career win outside of those fights was Monson at UFC 29.
More than anything I will remember him as a dirty fighter. He eye gouged many fighters intentionally as soon as things went bad for him. Among those are Randy, Tito, and he even needed an eye gouge to beat Vernon White. He even admits to most of those, but instead of being apologetic, he is dismissive, saying that they should toughen up. Not to mention the aforementioned kick to Overeem.
QUOTE(#1):
Top 50
I agree, I think he was a good fighter but not great. Your right his only big wins where from Randy and Vitor but was owned by Rampage Jackson and even lost to Keith Jardine. He was fun to watch in MMA and brought a lot of people to the sport. He is sort of got my attention to watch MMA back in the ufc early days. He is a fighter you have to respect because he did help grow the sport into what it is today. The ice man was very catchy with his blue shorts lol.
Overall at 205? not very high at all. During his tenure as champ he really didn't face top competition IMO. And the way he went out was also very below legendary.
QUOTE(#5):
I cant believe the above responses. Chuck is a 1st ballot HOFer (if there was such thing), a legend in MMA, and easily one of the top 205ers of all time. For a brief period about 5 years ago, he was one of the top fighters in the world. Jesus, you guys are so god damn negative.
Its not about being negative, he is a good fighter. I wouldnt say he was great, def a legend in the sport for the ability to gain fans and be a house hold name but the way he went out really hurt his legacy.
QUOTE(#7):
He was great. Willie Mays was like Mr MaGoo when he played with the Mets, does not take away from the fact that eh was great. Chuck could still fight at the end, he just had no chin.
Comparing Willy Mays and Chuck Liddell is a terrible insult to Mr. Mays.
I don't mean to be negative, but just like Randy, he chose to stay in the UFC when the best competition in the world was clearly elsewhere. He chose to fight Babalu and Jeremy Horn while Rampage, Wanderlei, Arona, Shogun and Ninja (among others) were in Pride.
For all the reasons I listed above, I view Chuck as an entirely average fighter. Not elite at all.

gotta agree with jim
is he top 50 right now -no
as an all time fighter when he fought people they were top of the heap they abviously dropped off shortly there after or since but that is the nature of the game. he is 42 now i belive so 5-7 years ago in his prime he was beating the other big names. in his day he was top 5 of all time he was not a one and done champ and was nearing the end (age wise) when he fell to the bottom
Am I the only one that finds it hilarious that they gave him an executive position in the UFC?
He sounds like Rocky by the fifth movie, he can barely speak any more. What is next, make Gary Goodridge in the VP of Finances?

Jim 5 years ago, where were all the top 205 fighters? Yup they were all in Pride.
Even though he beat Couture twice I'd still put Couture ahead of him at 205.
205's I'd list above Chuck: (no order)
Wandy, Randy, Rampage, Shogun, Machida, Henderson. And I believe he would have lost to Lil Nog, Arona, Saku, and Ninja. Back then in the 2004-2007 time frame.

No, Dana always said that once he retires he will open up a spot for him within the company. I just hope he doesn't do more drugs now that he knows he isn't fighting any more.
QUOTE(#13):
They gave him a desk and a 64 pack of crayons.
no cold & cough syrup aloud
QUOTE(#15):
How can you have Randy ahead of him when he KO'd Randy twice? That logic makes no sense to me. I would put Wandy ahead of him, even tough Chuck beat Wandy, they were both not in their primes when the fight happened. Shogun and Rampage ahead of him. The other guys you list are very debatable. I think Chuck definitely is one of the top 5 LW's ever. Ninja? Seriously? Jesus man, stop with the UFC hate.
It's not UFC hate. There are plenty of UFC fighters I cheer for.
The truth is the truth. Pride always had the better fighters. To bad they didn't have better business sense overall.
As for Couture, I still believe he was the better fighter. Chuck just happened to be on a roll at that point in time and caught Randy twice.
QUOTE(#16):
You obviously don't remember Mays with the Mets. Pretty sad.Its funny how you say Chuck avoided fighting the best guys at 205. He fought in Pride, he beat Guy Mezger, he beat Overroid, he lost to Rampage. He was supposed to fight the other guys under the UFC banner as part of the Pride-UFC agreement, but Pride backed out. How is that Chuck's fault?I find it even funnier you blame Chuck for not fighting those guys but stick up for Fedor, a guy that has avoided fighting any of the best heavies in the world. Hypocritical much?
Some how you always bring up Fedor

I for one will not say chuck ducked anyone. He faught who the UFC put him up against. Just so happens it wasnt the best of the best
