NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Michigan's offense...Offensive
January 1, 2011, 03:07 PM
The UM offense looked promising against weak defenses, but against any defense that is better than average they look weak. They can't keep up a fast pace against a physical defense that continually pounds them. They lose their wind quickly when they are in a physical battle. The performance they put up against OSU, MSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and now Mississippi State reflect exactly that. The only reason the offense is ranked where it is is because of the cupcakes that they were able to play against. The way things are going UM will not see more than 8 wins because they will not beat a quality defense.

Yup. Michigan will have a tough time getting more than 8 wins this season.

Or perhaps the Miss State defense is very good?

January 1, 2011  06:22 PM ET

I was all for seeing RR get another year - till today As a OSU fan it is sad to see what has happened to Mich - he is arrogant, nasty, and gone I hope. The can find a coach to make them 9-4 in 2011

It was good. But I think that's the point of what he's saying. Any team that had a good defense, was able to dominate a weak Michigan offense. Denard Robinson, and then what?

Their receiving corp is decent and Shaw could be a good back. The offensive talent is there, but RR has been exposed as both a poor planner and gameday manager. The offensive game plan stalled and he had no idea how to adjust.

The defense...well, there was no excuse for that.

I know it is a stretch here for some folks...

The offensive game plan stalled and he had no idea how to adjust. - perhaps the MState Defense is that good? They did the same thing to Cam Newton and held them to 17...

The defense...well, there was no excuse for that. - perhaps the running of Ballard and Perkins really is good? And Relf is no slouch in passing this year either.

Or perhaps you buy into the "the team was flat and didn't play well"....which COULD also fit why Alabama lost to Utah that year rather than Utah being that good....

Or perhaps the Big 10 isn't that good a conference this year?

Just curious.... :)

Sure the best Defense they saw in 2011!

Does anyone think Tate would have made any difference in the offense if he would/could of played? Still they would have been beat by a DIV-3 team.

I don't think so. Forcier is a spread QB, like Robinson. But not nearly as good.

MissState outplayed Michigan in all facets of the game and even a QB like Newton would not have overcome this mismatch.

Muck Fichigan! No tears shed here. They hired outside of the program. What the hell did they expect to happen. It'll be another 5 years before they are back in contention for anything. Meantime we will be glad to own the Big 10 for the near future.

Would not be so sure. WISC and NEB are very solid looking to the future. tOSU is as well, but if TP doesn't come back then I'm not sure tOSU would be a huge favorite to win whatever they end up calling its division.

Wisconsin lost to TCU and the other Big 10 teams lost to SEC teams.

I agree that they were outplayed in every facet of the game, the question is if they had another QB would this allowed robinson run the ball more, I think he was held back because they did not have anyone who could replace him. IMO he could have taken off many of times . I dont think this would have changed the outcome cause they could not stop Betty White.

Once again, you're getting all defensive. I don't get you man.

Michigan looked like crap. Sure, MSU played well, but MSU defense didn't drop passes, miss blocking assignments and blow up at quarterbacks on the sidelines.

Also, Michigan's defense has been crap all year. I wouldn't put much stock in MSU's running game after getting to play the Wolverines. Plenty of people here were predicting Michigan giving up big points in this game. But they looked like they hadn't even practiced tackling during the break.

Besides, not everyone gets to play UConn in a bowl game.

January 8, 2011  05:48 PM ET

I never tried to take anything away from MSU in the bowl game. They played a heck of a game, had a great game plan, and executed in all facets very well. Michigan played flat, missed tackles, dropped numerous balls, and Denard was hammered. There were no adjustments on offense. There is a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball for UM, but it isn't properly coached to bring out the best. Dropped balls and missed tackles and blocks are mental errors. In all honestly, if UM had played App St. on that day UM would have lost to them too. They should have just hopped on the bus and drove over to Grand Valley to take a whooping.

OK...I'm confused here...by MSU are you talking about Miss State or Mich State?

Thanks for giving Miss State any props for possibly being a good football team....

Just have to have a reason for getting beat by an SEC team that was 5th in their division. But perhaps you are correct...TSUN shouldn't have been in a bowl game as they are a horrible football team.....

Or perhaps you are agreeing that the reason Utah beat Alabama is because Alabama was flat for that game and not because Utah was the better team?

Yes MJD...I do get defensive at times, especially when someone tries to run down one of my teams...just as you do my friend, just as you do.

Really???? You have to bring in OU into a discussion about tSUN and Miss State?

Interesting....but then I'm defensive and confrontational when someone speaks ill and falsely about one of my teams...

get a life.
