NFL  > General NFL  > Harbaugh headed to San Francisco!

I think some niner fans should be jumping up and down right now! Congrats!

Congrats 9er fans. Harbaugh will do very well for you. :)

I read where talks broke down between the Dolphins and Harbaugh, when their GM, Jeff Ireland, asked Harbaugh if he in fact, was a prostitute.
I'm guessing, due to the outcome, that probably wasn't the smartest thing Ireland's ever said

This very comment was made in regards to Nolan and Singletary as well. When it comes to the Niners, I am convinced they will never be good again. Dynasty to doormat! How many years ya recon Harbaugh lasts in SF?

I know it was....but I have a gut feeling about Harbaugh. Call it what you will but, as I've been watching the reports the last few days, I just knew he'd go to SF.

Now, if I was Sporano...I'd be a little worried about the next few months. Contract or not.

When Luck decided to stay in college I was one of those that thought Harbaugh would stay as long as Luck stayed. Harbaugh has built a program that will stay strong for a four or five years at least. A long time ago some of us were hoping for Harbaugh. He will be a dream come true for the local press, finally we will have a coach that will answer questions that are relevant to football. The team has quite a few young players that will feed off his enthusiasm. I'm curious to see who will be his offensive coordinator, and the question now will be, which QB's on the 49er staff will remain and will SF draft or sign a free agent QB? For once the fans can cheer and let me say to Jed York, frankly I didn't think you had it in you to broker a deal like this, congratulations. The best news I've gotten this year.

Well the last 2 months of 2010 were terrible and goes down as one of the worst in my life, having 3 relatives die, had to go to 2 funerals the week before Christmas. On the 29th of December I got a Cell Phone Violation citation will driving 5mph down a crowded street, and the most embarrassing thing it was from Bicycle Cops, they never would have caught me if I'd have been going the maximum speed of 15mph. On New Years Eve 2 of my friends were shot doing their jobs as bouncers at a bar, the same street I got my ticket on and which was crawling with cops New Years Eve, I was in the bar down the street when it happened, both had to be flown to SF for treatment but will survive. The gunman still hasn't been caught but his accomplice burned to death the other day when SWAT teams threw in a flash bang device that caught the house he was hiding in on fire. The signing or Harbaugh makes me feel optimistic about what a great year 2011 will be, along with the #7 overall draft choice.

Should be interesting.

It's a shame Andrew Luck would have never fallen to the 49ers.

A twofer would have been nice. But about Luck. I have to belive this kid simply didn't want to play for the Panthers. What could he possibly gain by staying in school?

A degree for one, he knows that there will be a college football season, we don't know that there will be a NFL season, so he assured of continued playing time instead of waiting at home until the players come to their senses. He will get one more year to experience the joys of youthful college life, which is something money can't buy.

The jury is out on Harbaugh as not many college coaches are successful in the NFL. I think Jimmy Johnson was an exception to the rule.

So are you saying there can be no more exceptions? His whole life he has been around football, his father was a coach, his brother is a successful head coach. He played QB in the NFL and has coached San Diego to a winning season and taken Stanford to 2 bowl games in 4 years last year he led them to their best record and a Orange Bowl win. He is energetic, football savvy, and very competitive, his personality brought tons of high valued recruits to Stanford and revived their football program. From day one he noticed Andrew Lucks ability. I don't think San Francisco will change their defensive coordinator or defensive line coach, they need a linebacker coach since Singletarys brother left with him, the secondary needs help at cornerback. On offense they will need to get a West Coast minded offensive coordinator #1, larger receivers and TE, Harbaugh likes to use 2 or 3 TE's at times. They will also need a new Fullback and a flanker. Just as I had trepidation about Nolan, and knew for sure that Singletary was a mistake. I'm going to say that Harbaugh is the best coach since Steve Mariucci and he will succeed, this is the right man for the job.

Harbaugh may end up being a good coach for the niners and he done pretty good for Stanford, but he done it with the NCAA's best QB. And instead of jumping ship to SF, with one more year with the Cardinal him and Luck (Andrew) may have taken the Championship next year. But he decided to bail while the iron's hot. And props to Andrew Luck for staying in school, the money will still be there next year (barring a rookie salary cap, OUCH) and maybe the Cardinal will end up with a decent replacement to Harbaugh and there'll be another bowl game in store next year.
And how Sparano stays in miami another year is beyond me, after the way the organization treated him this week.

I hope you're right. But I just wont expect nothing but the same until I see the Niners do something on the field.

I'm not saying that he will win the Super Bowl in year 1, will he win the NFC West? Maybe. It all depends on the offensive coordinator he hires and who will be their future franchise QB? Some rebuilding will need to be done.

One of the reasons Luck went to Stanford was because of Harbaugh. I was wondering myself if Harbaughs assessment of Luck being the best QB he'd ever seen at the college level was a little over the top. Luck wasn't the only reason Stanford had a great year, it was a great team effort. What will the 49ers do with the #7 draft pick in 2011? QB?, WR? LB?, DE?, or CB? My other question is will the 49ers pay more attention now to Pac-12 talent than in the past?

Peyton Manning did the same thing. He elected to finish school instead of coming out early.

Didn't read all the comments so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. With the exception of Jimmy Johnson who was the last college coach to jump to the NFL and have great success? Will JH's past NFL experience as a qb be the difference between him having success or will he end up as just another college coach that failed in the NFL? There's alotta talent on the offensive side of the ball in SF so that should make JH's transition to the next level a little easier.
