Talent.
At the end of the day you are what the coaches and scouts see on film. QB play in the NFL this year was, for many teams, very lackluster. Someone will take VY for the talent and potential they see on film.
The race thing is what the media uses to get the fans whipped up. It sells papers and garners internet website hits. A NFL franchise is a business - the owners, coaches and scouts can't afford to get caught up in the race thing.

The race argument is thrown out there to stir up hate. If NFL teams think their best chance to win is with a black QB, they'll start a black QB. The only color owners care about is green.

... many in the market demand their team invest their 10th pick or move up to snatch ( Vince Young JUNIOR) Cam Newton or trade for Vince Young ...
Teams with top 10 picks look for can't-miss players that can contribute immediately. I don't think Cam is one of these. Andrew Luck was one ... but he chose to return to Stanford.
The current list of QBs in the draft have aspects of their game that need work:
Newton is a freakish athlete with good (not great) passing skills.
Gabbert has the compact throwing motion and size that NFL scouts love but has conditioning and decision-making issues.
Mallett possesses a great arm but has pocket presence and mobility issues.
Locker didn't live up to last year's label as the projected "first pick".

In 2011, Can Black Fans and Journalists be racist in their opinions and demands and can white folks call them on it. Afterall isn't a Washington DC resident'Redskin fan demanding a black QB JUST as unacceptable and RACIST it was in 1969 by white folks?

Cam Newtons size and atheltic abilities are crazy: I don't see him as a viable Pro QB: with that said: Someone smarter than any of us needs to figure out HOW to get him the ball-WITH space.
Wonder where Carolina looks now that Luck is off the board: Maybe trade down for quantity, Don't see a QB I'd take with a #1 aND cLAUSSEN IS NOT the answer.

Depends on the context of the argument. If it is quarterback "a" verses quarterback "b" then that might be the case. But asking for a black quarterback just to have one is something all together different. I will go on record as saying that the whole tone of your argument invites a whole litany of criticism. I live in the D.C. area too.
Cam Newton will not be VY 2. You don't really know what you are getting when you draft a player sometimes. There are things coaches and game film can't tell you. And say if you put a Cam Newton or whomever on the right football team he might just take off.
I agree with Willie, owners want to win. Coaches want to win. So it comes down to who gives you the best chance of winning. Skin color has nothing to do with that. None.

Funny thing is, there probably will be a QB that will blossom and be a NAME in the NFL from this 2011 draft and may end up being a 2-5 round selection: and may not even be on Dr. B-f-G list. If only any of us knew who it was; we'd be making the BIG $$$$

Fair enough;
My Post was done to provoke conversation and get input:
I grew up in the DC area: (PG COUNTY) and was a Redskin fan:
Moved away to Pittsburgh and am a fan of both teams:
When I come back to my hometown area I love listening to local sports radio and the last time there: I found some comments disturbing and others WELL over the racist line and tone.
Thus my post:

I'm often miffed at what I hear on sports talk radio with regards to race.
I grew up in the southwest and we didn't have a lot of money. Blacks and whites who grew up in this area who made the effort to associate with each other have developed a kinship that folks from other areas and cultures don't often understand. I'm often shocked at some of the comments I hear when I travel. Just my observation.
I'm quite often the only white guy at the sports bar I frequent and the regulars there treat me like family. It took about 5 minutes for me to be assimilated into the group the first day I walked in. I think it's how we were raised that makes the difference. I'm the college "expert" at the bar but these guys really know their NFL. They were telling me about Vick and Miles Austin before they had their breakout seasons.

I don't get it: You say the whole tone of my arguement invites a whole litany of criticism.
I wasn't going for a tone: these were my observations and opinions, not an arguement that I posted.
I believe in 2011 most reasonable people, which I include myself in, don't care if their QB is white or black. I am a product of the mid to late 1960- and 1970's Md. public school systems, some of the first intergrated and gratefull for the experience.
But really, a whole litany of criticism? That was not my intention:

Sometimes money plays a really important part of race. When it becomes about status and who fits in that's where the real issues start. I'm glad that you are able to move from circle to circle and everyone benefits from that.

I'm not trying to drag this out. I want to keep the spirit you suggest. But the wording you are using to me is challenging and forcefull. It sounds like you are saying that because a guy is black he should or should not be starting. In fact I read it wrong. So that is my fault. I don't think Cam is Vince Young junior and I will stand by that. But I back off of my earlier comments.

You can pretty much tell when someone makes a comment about race whether they've made the effort to associate with society or stay within their circle.

My wife and I raised 3 kids and purposely move into a diversed suburban neighborhood outside Pittsburgh. We became a second home to many of their friends ( black and white) and still see many of the kids (NOW men and women). I was also a bouncer in the 90's at a club that was 90-95% black patrons that never disrespected me, nor I never disrespected anyone. My post was based on a very simple thought: After listening to some DC Sports radio, I heard some black folks call in and use reasoning that I would NEVER allow my children to use. A RACIST COMMENT is RACIST.

Thank you and if my reply seemed aggressive I too apoligize (group hug): I truely believe that the QB that gives my team the best chabce to win NEEDS to start:

Absolutely. And there is reverse racism as you said. Also there are people who have never forgiven the Redskins for being the last franchise to add a black player. Hence the great number of Cowboy fans who live in this area.

I think Vince Young has a much better chance of starting, and succeeding, at QB of the Redskins. Much better chance than Cam Newton, Ryan Mallett, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker or any other QB, black or white, in this draft.
Personally I would put Cam at H-back and find ways to get the ball into his hands. He is Vince Young with more speed. He absolutely ran away from Patrick Peterson - LSU's elite corner/return man who will be a top 10 pick - in Auburn's win over LSU.

Thanks. The whole idea that Shanahan had was to get a veteran qb and build around him like he had done with John Elway. A lot has happened that has ruined all of that. The Redskins have a bad team. Pure and simple. They have given away draft picks like they are Halloween candy. They have not drafted well. And they have made vets highly paid without properly evaluating them and figuring out how they will fit into the team chemistry. The Skins need to get a scouting department and go to work. If not then these issues will continue.

At 6'5 240 I think his future is at qb. I just think that the coach must have a plan and stick with it. If you watch him on film and say he can do this or he can't do that, then you put him in situations that will help your team win. Part of being a coach is know what you have and then using it. The coach of the year who you will never hear about is Charlie Weis. I knew when the Chiefs hired him as the OC that there offense would improve by leaps and bounds and it did.
