NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Another Season Gone - Thoughts

It's just a little early yet(about 6 hours) but what were the striking memories, thoughts or just throw out anything about this year.
January 10, 2011  06:57 PM ET

Sad that another CFB year is gone(and I'm a year older)
Ecstatic about TCU's season
Cam and Cecil Newton taking another step toward ruining the integrity of CFB(along with the hoaxy SEC commissioner "interpreting the rules" the way he did. I still think that in the end the truth will come out that Cam knew everything all along.
The Tat5 controversy and the standup tOSU fans that didn't want the outcome the way it was.
Wishing CFB could just be watched for the h3ll of it without all the controversy
Mom grew up down the road from Oregon so will be pulling for the Ducks

January 10, 2011  07:15 PM ET

I wish I could have watched more.

Very open ended but nice idea for a thread. I'll probably post more later but for now my thoughts turn toward the idea that there were perhaps more distractions than usual to this season. The conferences getting ready to be realigned. The suspensions and the suspensions that could have happened but didn't. I wish everything didn't have to be about the money or seem to be about the money.

I've enjoyed reading the posts of the community here in this neck of fannation's woods. Makes you realize how good people can see things differently but still get along for the most part.

A TCU fan pullin' a Meyer/Foley.

NICE!!!

Great season for my Aztecs. Another MWC bowl conf championship. Very iffy season from the NCAA on many levels. Good to see both AU and TCU go undefeated. To bad again we don't have a real on-field champion, another year of a beauty contest in the books.

I too have enjoyed reading the posts of others. I feel I have gained a good perspective of fans from around the nation this year, thus furthering my education.

And apologies for the "getting along for the MOST part". I think if you exclude my debates with some SEC fans on here, the NCAAF message boards remain pretty argument-free and all-around friendly. But hey, what else would you expect from 2 differing opinions who feel very strongly in polar directions?

Although I don't think any of the arguments are taken personally, so with said, it's a very friendly group of people.

Anyways, for the season itself, I thought it was a great year, probably the most enjoyable for me in my lifetime.

Stanford won a BCS bowl, in dominating fashion at that!

We saw our fair share of upsets, dissapointments, surprise teams, and great games throughout the year.

Congrats to Auburn fans for a great season as well. The Tigers played one of the most memorable seasons in college football history for a variety of reasons (99% of them being good).

Make 8 BCS conferences and have a playoff to determine the champion. Congrats to Auburn and condolences to TCU.

120 teams in the FBS....10 conference of 12 teams each...conference champions play in the playoff and other teams go to bowls....

Miss State surprised a lot of folks and looking up from here (at least for a little while). OU did better than a lot expected as well.

First season on the boards and was interesting to say the least.

Learned that some folks take things way to seriously or out of context (as do I, as do I)...and some don't like to have responses to their posts that aren't agreeable. Sometimes it is best to just not say anything....

learned that I tend to bite back when attacked (need to work on that one). Also learned that we need a "sarcasm" button

Most thing I learned was that there really are some nice Texas fans... :)

Final USA today poll-interesting to note that the Big East somehow continues to keep a BCS slot-at least TCU will salvage that to a degree (2 ranked WAC teams and 2 ranked MWC teams/0 ranked BE teams)-SDSU was close, maybe the AP poll will be a bit better:

And the Silly Playoff Scenario season starts. ;-)

I think I've never watched fewer games in a season. The little grues (gruesome twosome) are growing up so fast and involved in everything. So that was sad.

I agree with JoePlum that the off-field stuff with Cam Newton seemed to have more emphasis than most years. the NCAA had a number of issues to deal with and their inconsistency in punishments really highlighted what a hodge-podge their rulebook is. "well that's the rule so we applied it." But in total, the rules make little sense.

January 11, 2011  09:20 AM ET

All I can say is its time for a playoff and start the game before 8:00!

January 11, 2011  09:33 AM ET

Ok - +1 TCU vs Auburn
10 M to the winner, 5 M to the loser, Jerry Jones let's Texas Stadium out for free for the publicity
TV rights for the one game 25 M, revenue from ticket sales, food, clothing, etc 10 M
Someone makes 20 M in one day.

I'll chip in 10k, anyone else?

I think Mark Cuban should do this. Except Auburn would decline because they have nothing to gain except 10M. They already have the "BCS Championship"

And I do think TCU would have a realistic chance of winning. If the Ducks can shut the Auburn offense down for the most part, TCU could.

Thanks...finally got to the last post and found it.

So there isn't anything written, just some desires that the schools be research institutions. A lot like the Big 10.

Good stuff...thanks

Looking at the end-of-season poll, my picks for over- and under-rated

overrated -- Michigan St.
underrated -- Iowa

Anyone else?

January 11, 2011  12:24 PM ET

totally agree about Michigan St. not sure about Iowa though. they lost to an overrated arizona and minnesota. plus i can't give 'em much credit for the mizzou win as Mizzou was probably overrated.

if we are starting with the preseason rankings -

overrated - Texas
underrated - Nevada, SDSU, or Mississippi St.

looking at the final rankings -

overrated - Oklahoma St. or Michigan St.
underrated - Wisconsin (they should be ahead of tOSU as the Rose Bowl lose wasn't worthy of dropping them in the standings.)
