MMA  > General MMA  > Question for SF HW

What will happen to SF HW if lets say Overeen wins and Fedor loses? Overeen may get bored fighting in SF and keep fighting outside the organization or even join the UFC. Now if Fedor losses then that may finish out his career which will leave SF HW look weak and thin. So is the tourney really a great idea or once its finish what else is there to look for?? And please be realistic with the comments do not bring up Walker or Lashley the future of HW lol

QUOTE(#1):

I truly have no idea what the hell Overeem is going to do? I can't see him coming to the UFC, because I don't think they want him over in K1 tournaments. I don't even know if he finishes out this supposed SF tourney. A better question is, what happens if Fedor or Overeem get injured. Do they throw Shane Rosario in for them. That would throw a major wrench into the tourney. Imagine Shane Del Rosario vs Barnett for the SF gran prix champ? What a ratings bananza (sarcasm)

I dont think they have picked out a place yet and they are suppose to fight next month. If they keep waiting ticket sales are not going to look good.

Have ticket prices ever looked good?

Thats true, I have read that Fedor lack of opponents have hurt him to become a top money maker unlike Randy C other fighters.

Most fans in the US just don't know who Fedor is.

And thats why SF struggle to make profits with their shows. The ufc is going every where making them a house hold name. I dont see SF making past 3 more years. From what I read if SF doesnt make a big splash this year to TRY to compete with the ufc then more likely they are going to fold.

I agree 100%. They have 2 big names they were planning to make money on and that is Henderson and Fedor. Then Hendo gets worked by Shields in wrestling, Hendo's best attribute besides the overhand right, and then Fedor gets triangled and armbarred into submission. Not good for their money makers. And then you got the UFC that is now playing on Spike, Versus and Ion television not to mention there great PPV sales. What happens in that tourney if both Fedor and Overeem lose in the 1st Rd? You are going to have Werdum vs Silva again vs a possible Khirtonov or Barnett? Not liking the chance of that selling a lot of tickets unless you add Fedor, Hendo, Overeem on the fight cards with the tourney finale.

LOL why don't you 3 get a room and beat one up for UFC? :)

SF's tourney is great and I can't believe you are debating how it is wrong or bad for the company. Please, stop the envy!

First of all, the tourney is not for the belt. So obviously AO is locked as the champ until after the tourney, and then will have to defend against the tourney winner (unless he wins it).

Second, it was said that AO will not fight anywhere else until the end of the tourney. He signed the dotted line, so this is settled.

In case of injury, they will see if they can wait. they do not want to wait too long, but they could. And obviously if fedor and/or AO are the ones injured they will do their best effort to wait.

And one thing you guys seem to forget. SF might fight outside US. And if they go fight in japan for instance, they probably will have a bigger fanbase than UFC...
And this is not bashing UFC, but simply because AO, Barnett and Fedor are gods on that side of the globe.

Stop thinking negative about the tourny and be greatful we have some great matchups on the way. And if I gotta watch Bigfoot vs Barnett in the finals then so be it! they won to get there so the deserve it.

I thought the title was on the line? Least i think Josh Gross from espn said it was.

But its going to be good. You can actually see sf hw fighters fight for once.

Love how the m1 logo is ahead of strikeforce on a press release. Co promoting with an organization with one good fighter is a ****.

they Culdn't because then AO's fights would need to be 5x5 while all non-title would be 3x5.
That would be unfair.

I can see why.

But regardless, I think this will be great. and if (for instance) Fedor beats AO, we can see an instant rematch right after the tourney!

We will have 2 opportunity to see them go at it. how can this possibly be a bad thing?

it's smaller :)
But I think it's just Fedor.
I just take pleasure to know the clock is ticking, and even though it is bitter sweet, at some point they will have to stop behaving like arses and start doing business like everyone else.

Its still going to great. Im looking forward to it. I think Josh Barnett can make the finals. So long he passes any drug tests.

And it seems like all the mma reporters on twitter are geeking out about it.
