Tough to say. The argument for this measure (age restriction) has been that it gives the NBA a chance to get a better look at what they are taking on. They get a chance to play a more stringent (even if you perceive it as only slight) difficulty against some more challenging players.

However there is little denying that some of these kids are clearly ready (or close to) straight out of high school. Without the age restriction selecting those that are ready however may be more difficult (I am honestly not sure, I'm not a scout).

Personally, I think the one year restriction is ineffective. It either needs to be upped to 2 or 3 years (such as the NFL) or taken back to no age restriction.

If the NBA would require at least two years in college BOTH the NBA and college game would benefit from it. Too many HS kids are selfish 'me-first' hoopsters with no real understanding of team basketball. A couple of years in college would greatly help that. And like 821 said SOME of 'em are ready for the NBA, no question. It's the other ones that skip college with no real understanding of fundamentals that hurts the NBA.

Players should have to play at least 2 years of college ball...

Coming straight from High School is silly and their games are so under-developed it is insane!

In college, they will hone some of their skills and show that moving to another level is not as big a risk...

IMO Players like Lebron and Amar'e have proven that they belong from jump. Look at the league's present superstars and stars... Most of them came in straight out of high school or immediately after their freshman year.
