NFL  > General NFL  > Rob Ryan...........Cowboys new DC?
January 15, 2011, 02:35 PM
I know very little about Rob Ryan, other than he's the son of the infamous Buddy, and the brother of Rex, and he does resemble the late Jerry Garcia. As of this writing, he and the Cowboys were working on a deal, but nothing finalized, although both sides are "impressed", whatever that means.
From information I have found, he has been the DC of the Browns the past 2 years, and 5 years with the Raiders before that. Anyone know anything more about this man, and should Cowboys fans be ....happy.....worried.........give up.......what? Should we be impressed as well?

The old curmudgeon, Buddy, will likely not be happy, but then he never was happy with anything.

I hope Rob doesn't try to emulate his brother. I'm Ok with Rex's attitude and style, I just don't think that trying to "Copy" something ever works. Players will see right through it. Best for Rob to be his own man. "Integrity, service before self, excellence in all we do...."will get it done.

If he was going to copy his brother, he should have already done so, but then he's not a head coach either........yet.
But, I don't believe he will tho. I would imagine he'd wait and see how it works with Rex before trying it himself. I have no problem with Rex's style either.......the one I had problems with, was their old man, Buddy.

Bull, i think that you are really going to like having Rob Ryan on the sidelines. I know that Cleveland's record sucked the last two years while he was there but there were definitely improvemtents made. And he did it with a hodge-podge group of linebackers, only 3 CBs (2 if you do not count Eric Wright: and most do not) and a leaky defensive line. I think that the players loved playing for him. Rob had the ability to get the most out of some average players; yall have more talent in Dallas so you should have a rebounding year on the defensive side of the ball.

He does get aggressive and takes chances with the all-out blitzes. He'll get burned, but so does every d-coord. I wish that he could have stayed in Cleveland...

I know Buddy Ryan knew his business (for being such a curmudgeon), or the Bears defense wouldn't have been as it was in 1985, and I have no doubt that he taught his sons some things. Appreciate the input LCBF and BG.

Like i have said in other threads ... getting the correct Defensive coordinator to go along with GarretTop will make or break this team. Either Ryan is aan awesome hire and he turns it around ... or Jerry is gonna have to fire everyone and blow it all up and start over.

LCBF,
as I read your post I somewhat feel you are describing the 2010 Dallas Defense. Dallas is a hodge-podge group of sub average players. Dallas still thrives on its reputation and name-recognition. Dallas gets a ridiculous number of players in the Pro-Bowl each year, particularly at the less glamorous positions. This makes Jerry (No-Mind) Jones think he has quality folks there. I hope that Rob can help this team and has some influence getting rid of the old and bringing in some real talent and speed.

Rob has the ability of getting more out of players, making mediocre player play above their talents. You should see improvements in Dallas.
