NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Jim Harbaugh fallout in full swing
January 17, 2011, 09:31 PM
Amir Carlisle and Anthony Sarao have both decommitted from Stanford in the last 2 days. Both of which also have opted to sign with USC.

These are both real tough losses for the Cardinal, and huge gains for the Trojan recruiting class. Both Carlisle and Sarao were 4 star recruits. Carlisle, a running back, and Sarao, a linebacker.

I had originally heard of Carlisle's decommitment yesterday, and was worried it could lead to a huge fallout of Stanford recruits. Currently, Stanford has the no.16 recruiting class in the nation according to ESPN.com. However, with these two losses, they will likely fall into the 20s, while USC will move from no.9, possibly into the top 5.

I can't help but think about Reggie Bush when I see these two kids leave. Bush was originally a Stanford committ before changing his mind and heading to USC.

The words following the blog # are not necessary.

Will be interesting to see if these recruits stay in the Pac 10.

Thanks.

And they did, both are headed to USC. But I don't think they'll be the last to de-commit from Stanford.

Oy - I missed that part. Need to learn to read.

I'm kind of surprised they chose USC though. I guess in another year they'll be back in contention, but still.

I don't think potential USC recruits are worried about the sanctions.

The bowl ban ends next season and any recruit that signs this year may redshirt or not be a starter anyway. In effect, they won't miss any bowl games - other than maybe traveling with the team to the bowl game.
Plus, they know they will have less competition to be a starter.

Obviously the quantity will be affected but most likely not the quality.

As for Stanford, they are only 4 days into having a new coach so a drop off in recruiting is to be expected. Give them a week or so to get back into the hearts and minds of some of these recruits. They may not have a great recruiting year, but it should be respectable.

Also, Stanford is coming off an Orange Bowl shellacking of VA tech - plus, Luck is returning. And remember (OC) Coach Shaw recruited Luck out of High School. He also arrived at Stanford with Harbaugh 4 years ago and helped take the Cardinal from the worst team in the Pac 10 to 1 of the best itc.
