NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Mike Leach vs Craig James........A love story
January 22, 2011, 08:17 AM
I don't know why I'm so fascinated with this story over one year after the fact....
Maybe it is because it has everything a person could want in story:
Helicopter Parent
Spoiled & Lazy kid
Rich overbearing parent
Alleged abuse to a kid
Arrogance on both sides
Allegations a many on both sides
Schools that want to win at any cost

This ongoing saga kind of epitomizes everything about the dark side of college football.
As I continue to read stories about this I continue to feel that both sides are at fault, but that overall it should have been handled internally. The only reason it went viral is that Craig James and his money and fame took it to a whole new level.
I don't think Mike Leach is any more right, but the facts don't seem to add up.

One of the main reasons I have my T&R name is because of people like Craig James

+You are correct in that the only way this went viral is because of Craig James and his money/position with ESPN/ego.

If it had been your kid or my kid, no way anyone else would have heard about any of this. If we hadn't liked what was going on with how our sons were being treated we would have just pulled them from the program, or told them to man-up...

Helicopter parents are bad enough, but when they use their position to bully their way into a program, it just really p*sses me off. Still can't stand to listen to "him" talk on ESPN...and I have lost a lot of respect for ESPN for the way they handled it by making it that big a story...

Mike's breach of contract case was thrown out Friday.....I guess he'll just have to write a book to make ends meat.....He is kind of tainted goods to coach in Div 1 NCAA...<Craig cracks a smile>

I'm not defending Craig James but I'm not so sure that I agree he's the reason this all came out. It starts with Leach and Texas Tech. It seemed pretty obvious that Tech was sick of him but how could they defend getting rid of him with his record. Remember, he was only suspended when this became public. He took them to court to be reinstated and they in turn fired him for suing them. Of course, this was just a means to an end they already were set on. Leach's ego runs amuck. If he'd shut up and drop all this BS, he'd get hired pretty quickly and it wouldn't still be with us. Leach is the perfect example of cutting of your nose to spite your face.

I agree....I think they found a great excuse to get rid of him...Leach did not help his cause...I think all he had to do was apologize and things might have simmered down...

I think that is what makes this story so intriguing.....Leach does not want to play by the rules and James wants to make them up as he goes along to fit his needs....Craig James is no stranger to controversy being part of one of the biggest pay for play scandels ever....James would fit in well in politics..I wonder how much it will cost to buy favors from him if ever elected to anything higher than PTA president

I haven't followed the story that closely but I haven't seen or heard anything from James since last January except for when he's referred to when Leach's lawsuit is mentioned. James is a **** and he's hard to listen to but if you weed through all that, he actually makes some good points about college football.

I agree.
This story has no winners; only losers.

- TT looks dumb for firing a successful coach 2 days before an $800 k bonus; all for disciplining a player / helping an injured player .... we'll never know.

- Leach looks dumb for suing TT for $800 K after all the millions he made there (wonder how much his appeal lawyer cost?).

- Leach looks even dumberer for losing the appeal
(he has a law degree).

- Adam James is now seen as a big wuss.

- Craig James is seen as a dad using his position of power to protect his son - who, by the way, is probably a big wuss.

OUCHIES all around!

NFOM, you are right. Both wrong. Inside info was when told about James' condition he curtly said something like "well make him stay in that dimly lit shed over there and don't let him out. Don't need him anyway." From that point on things went nuts. So, again you are right in that all were wrong. He was wrong with his way of handling it. Helicopter parent Craig was wrong. TT was wrong for just using this to get rid of him because he was always popping off and they owed him $800 K after Jan 1.

Mike Leach will eventually find a coaching job. James will suffer in purgatory in a air conditioned room watching football and never participating again.

He was at an SEC game and people started yelling stuff at him. He was ready to go into the stands after some people.

I would have paid good money to see him make the leap into the stands!
