This is just one site I found it, but on multiple sites, it's reported. Dana White said if both successfully defend their titles, then the superfight is next. He said GSP has agreed to move up to 185 and stay there.

Well Jim we all know how great Belfort can be at times, at the same time we all know what a mental midget he can be at times.

This fight needs to happen in 2011 (especially since Mayweather and Pacquiao are still being ****).

January 24, 2011  10:07 PM ET

I say make the fight happen win or lose for Silva.

I don't think they would make Silva one because of his limited English

I don't much like it.
I mean why does GSP get a straight shot at the belt? he should have, at least to beat someone at first.

And yeah, Bj did, but BJ wanted a stint at the belt and that's it. If GSP is really moving up, he should play by the rules...

And worse... what will happen to his weight class? If he wins he goes up... so if he loses.... who gets the belt?

Why does it HAVE to be for the belt? and if it is and GSP wins then spider can move up WHERE HE BELONGS! Whats the point of teh belt anyway...i think its dumb. i wish they would have sumthin else other than a belt...reminds me of wwf too much..and if gsp moves up he vacats the belt and they can have their own GP...im a fan of a GP, fighters moving p or down, no more belts

heh. you got that right... those belts does look like WWF stfuff...

However, I don't agree with cutting the line.

Look, if it is one stint and back, I'm fine with going against the champ (or #1 or whatever you want to call).
However, Look at BJ now. he went up a weight class. he didn't fight GSP straight. He fought Hughes and now he's fighting a top guy, but not the #1.
I would say do the same for GSP.... and one thing i don't understand. why force Shields to move down and then if he LOSES to GSP, GSP moves up ??? Sounds like a little bit lack of direction to me...

And a GP? This would smell as UFC is trying to imitate SF, doesn't it? :)

So all in all, I don't like it.

If it was me, I would do this:
If GSP wins, he should stay, Shields maybe goes up and tries his luck against Silva.
If GSP loses, give him some time to bulk up and movce up. Give him one tune up (top 10) fight, one top 5 and then go for the belt.

Don't forget also that if Silva wins, his next fight will be in Brazil. How would GSP feel being the vilain? I don't think it fits him, nor I think it should be the focus for an event in Brazil (not if you got Royce gracie, Shogun, Rua, Aldo all on the card as they were announcing!).

If anything, I think it would be perfect to have Silva fight Sonnen in Brazil.

see your looking at it as a title fight, wich it prob will be, i look at it as a super fight. HOWEVER i wouldnt discourage a tuneup fight.
Also, no one forced Sheilds to move down thats what was agreed upon in his contract.
no it smells like PRIDE came up with the GP and SF is using it, and so should anyone else they are exciting.
so biased with Brazil..lol

January 26, 2011  01:27 PM ET

Personally, I would rather see Silva get beat up by Shogun.

hehehe not true.
I am not biased about Brazil. But the fact is that the show is in Brazil, so I just think if the UFC doesn't want GSP to fight on a hostile crowd, they should not make this mega-fight in Brazil.

Also on this, as it will be the first mega-event in Brazil, with so many stars, i think it would be a waste for UFC to put such mega-fight on this card. It just doesn't make sense.
You have Aldo, you have Machida, Rua, JDS, Wandi and even oldies like Royce G. Why add such mega-fight? Doesn't make sense (monetarily speaking, as this event would sell anywhere!!!)....

If anything, it would make sense to make a rematch with Sonnen in Brazil as he is the perfect villain! Not to mention he called out Brazil (before the first fight) and he would be out of his suspension.

As about the GP, yes. pride might have started them. but after such hiatus, if UFC makes one just after SF announced his, it will smell as copycat.... or at least bandwagoners :P

and last on Shields, I think they did. 2008 was the last time he fought as a WW. He moved up.
The fact Dana thinks he should be a WW dosn't change the fact he was fighting (and winning) as a MW. I think he did it just so he could give GSP a real challenge, as he knows there was no one else to challenge him.

But that just displays confusion.
SHields arrive as MW but moved to WW to fight GSP.
SHields loses but stays in MW...
GSP wins and remains the champ, but then moves up and vacate the title... Makes little sense.

If GSP loses, Title goes to Shields and so he would be free to move up & fight Silva.
But if by winning the title will be vacant... what is exactly GSP defending on that fight?

I agree.

1) a mega fight.
2) 2 of the top Brazilians fighting
3) Fight IN BRAZIL!

Can't get better than that.

This fight must happen. Anderson Silva is my guy and have watched him before joining the ufc, hands down he is one of the best ever..... But my gut feeling just like I had with Cain beating Brock is saying that Silva is coming out of his prime and may actually lose this fight. If GSP and Silva happen I am still going with Silva dominating the fight.

Why does he have to fight someone else first??? This is a fight for the fans, everybody and their mommas want to watch it. This fight can break MMA records number wise and will be one of the biggest MMA fights. I say if GSP loses he should go back down to 170... I dont see GSP being successful at 185 against guys who normally walk around 220 on an average day.

GSP doesn't need to fight someone else inorder to fight Anderson Silva.

This is a money maker fight 1st to dana white and nd this is a fight the whole world wnats to see so please Roni don't give Dana any ideas to take this away from us.

Look other then the Fedor debates we will find ourselves agreeing on just about everything, now with that being said from what I read the catch weight would be around 178 kinda meet at the middle but now I am reading GSP will just completely go up to 185 for the fight. Do you know how many people are going to watch this fight if it happens? Its going to be a sick event.
