Strikeforce's first event of 2011 was a hit with Showtime viewers.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed that this past Saturday's "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg" event peaked with 853,000 viewers.

Industry sources confirmed that viewership on the premium-cable channel peaked during the evening's main event between Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and Brazilian slugger Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos.

"Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg" took place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Overall, the event averaged 561,000 viewers, which is more than any single Strikeforce event broadcast on Showtime in the past year.

The peak viewership was the second-highest ever earned by a Strikeforce event on Showtime, ranking just behind 2009's female championship fight between Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and Gina Carano, which drew a Strikeforce record 856,000 viewers during the main event and averaged 576,000 viewers for the card.

The ratings for Strikeforce's most recent events include:
576,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg" (January 2011)
517,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Miami" (January 2010)
412,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum" (June 2010)
367,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Houston" (August 2010)
350,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2" (October 2010)
341,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II" (December 2010)
308,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery" (May 2010)
164,000 viewers, "Strikeforce: Los Angeles" (June 2010)

People (like me) are buying showtime now for the HW Tournament, and the carryover from that is almost certainly responsible for this one.

Or you can watch it online, SF is not as strick as the ufc with allowing people to stream their events.

well, this comes to prove they are indeed growing.
And this is a good thing. This trend will probably continue and (IMO) might peak if/when Fedor fights AO or Wedum (either will pick the interest of any MMA fan).

And on the other hand, have you notice that both SF and UFC have cleaned up their act and are actually looking more at the product they are selling?

UFC events are not as watered down as before, and SF is actually putting big cards out!

I actually have my lap top hooked up to my 50inch plasma, I would order showtime but they have too many late night porn.

what I meant is: I checked the channel, and I saw no porn movies or anything, so i don't understand your comment that "they have too many late night porn"...

And I ask because I am serious when I note I am ignorant of their shows. I just signed up and spent only past saturday watching TV. So I didn't have a chance to know, but same as you, I have my nieces visiting during school break and I don't want them watching porn...

now on the xbox, i would guess you don't lock your computer on your safe before going to sleep.
So it is not far-fetched to think that, if your nephew feels like watching porn, having Showtime locked will be as a big deterrant as tunring on your computer...

So You don't pay SF and prefer to stream it, but you would buy UFC PPV's.
If anything, if someone would stream just so they don't pay 5.00 bucks per month, they will probably use the same stream to watch UFC and save more than 50 bucks per month!

Amazing as how in the mind of a hater 5.00 bucks per month is harder to pay for than 50-100 (if they have 2 events)...
