NCAAB  > General NCAAB  > Larry Drew II The coward?
February 6, 2011, 08:03 AM
The Junior PG for the North Carolina Tar Heels abruptly left the team Thursday night following a game in which he had 9 assists and 2 turnovers. 3 games after he was replaced as a starter by Fresman standout Kendall Marshall.

Many UNC fans were calling for his head preceding the lineup change due to his lack of progression and his questionable ball handling and court vision. But since the change, he has played his best ball yet. So why the sudden decision to leave the team in the middle of the season?

Fans and haters will speculate until the true reasons are revealed, if they are ever revealed. But regardless of his reasons, he did this in the most cowardly way imaginable. He obviously wasn't happy about something, but how bad could it have been for him to up and leave?

Where does this leave UNC? The fans will shrug it off and say they are better off without him, but they have looked damn good as of late and he played a big role in their success. I think it hurts them as a team, Strickland is wild with the ball and is no PG, so this leaves UNC with one PG on its roster. A good one, but not good enough to rely on for 40 minutes.

Although I am no UNC fan, I do think it is shameful for their team to have to suffer due to one guy's selfishness.

And just one week before the first meeting with Duke! I say (on the behalf of UNC fans) go to hell Drew 2.

GO DUKE!!!

I didn't take any shots at UNC. I'm just curious what their fans think about the situation. I honestly don't think any team deserves a cowardly exit such as what Drew has done to them. There was no UNC hate at all in my post.

Your a Duke fan, COME ON!! No pot-shot intended, huh? Well then I guess I stand corrected. Although I still say Coach K is a robot. He hasn't changed at all in 25 years! Good luck the rest of the season. And if my Buckeye's can't take care of business then best of luck to your Blue Devils in chasing that repeat! And on more thing...

BUCKEYE BUMP

I couldn't believe he just up and quit like that. Hell since going to the bench he was playing some of his best ball like you said. Though if the Florida State game is any indication they are going to be fine without him. Marshall played lights out dishing the rock to big scorers.

I think it says a lot about that family. His Father, and NBA Coach, allows his Son, to quit on a team. My Father would have whopped my behind barn red if I had quit on a team growing up. No Character. The kid was soft.

As a long time UNC fan, I thought Drew II's quitting was chicken ****. No matter the reason, you start a season, you finish a season. I do think his Dad had something to do with it. I think he was embarassed as an ex-NBA'r to have his son removed from the starting role to a back up role. Drew has never been the ball handler everyone grew to love with Ty Lawson but then again, not many PGs are that good at the college level.

I am concerned however that he makes the fourth major transfer under Williams in the past couple of years. I am concerned with what it going on.
