MLB  > General MLB  > Pujols to Cubs would rival Ruth to Yankees
February 11, 2011, 10:17 PM
Everyone knows the tale of how the Red Sox let Ruth go to the Yankees and how if this deal is made would turn the baseball world upside down. This is the deal Cub fans have been waiting 100+ years for. Can it happen?

Not unless the Cubs miraculously become contenders over night and then they'd have to prove it - NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

February 12, 2011  10:27 AM ET

From the club that traded Lou Brock to get Ernie Broglio? Yeah, right.

February 13, 2011  07:43 PM ET

Most likely won't happen.

February 13, 2011  09:38 PM ET

It's gonna happen.

<crosses fingers>

If all he wants is money, I hope it does happen! Him being on perennial losers Cubs is perfect

February 16, 2011  09:46 AM ET

Pujols is a great player and as a Cards fan it would suck to see him there but for 300million over 10 years, I will laugh if they did because they would destroy their team for years to come by paying him money he is not worth.

The Cards made a very legit offer of 200 million over 8 years...that is a 10m per year jump over his current deal...anything more should be like 30 million for the 1st 4 or 5, then down to 25-20 over the last 3 or 4....

February 16, 2011  09:47 AM ET

Basically like 220m over the same 8 years is on the money....

February 16, 2011  10:16 AM ET

Owners should agree to boycott Pujols and others who are over the top.

QUOTE(#10):

They were already contenders not long ago winning the division twice in 07 and 08. Your wafer thin memory does not even extend beyond two years. This is the National League Central, where anyone can come out on top in any given year. Not to mention the Cubs have a ton of money coming off the books next year putting them squarely in a position to be a leading contender again. Can the cash strapped Cardinals say the same thing? I thing not. Your completely brainless analogy of the Cubs never being able to contend again makes anything you say hard to take seriously. The real truth is you are just praying and hoping he will never come to the Cubs. He's already waved goodbye to the Cardinals

Yeah, they were and they got how far? They still haven't won a World Series in over 100 years and AP has stated repeatedly that "he wants to win". I doubt he even thought of the Cubs when he made his list of teams to "listen to".

What a **** you are. Don't be surprised if the Cubs pass the Cards again in the next couple of years

NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

QUOTE(#14):

Right. He wants to win, which is probably why he crossed the Cardinals off of his list. After the way he seen how the Cubs had handily slapped the Cardinals around last year he probably had a change of heart.

LMAO! Apparently you haven't been reading where Albert LOVES being a Cardinal and wants to retire a Cardinal?

QUOTE(#15):

Oh it could easily happen. Things happen in cycles. It happened after 06 when the Cardinals hit a down cycle and it could easily happen again. It already happened last year when the Reds overtook them. You think guys like Carpenter are incapable of being injured again? Plus possibly unforseen sub par years by other players. Things can change quickly. They already have begun to

we shall see, won't we?

February 19, 2011  01:39 PM ET

Not sure the Cubs could afford Pujols, but anything's possible, just not sure he would go to Cubs, if he becomes a free agent, it Yankees or Boston...best chances to win....

Loves the Cardinals? Sure, enough to reject them and tell them where to stick it. No. What he loves is money, and anyone who can provide it

Show me where he has "rejected" them and told them "where to stick it"!!!!!!!!!!!!
